To not understand why Farage hasn’t been forced out yet?

Let’s call a spade a spade…

when a person takes multiple ‘gifts’ from various shady sources they aren’t nice presents from one kind person to another. They. Are. Bribes.

Regardless of whether we agree with Nige on any of his policies, or that a woman is a woman or whatever else…

surely it’s clear the man is a crook?

I saw the good people of Clacton being interviewd and they said that it was a left wing stitch up and/or they didn't care anyway
They deserve him

SerendipityJane · Yesterday 12:21

We are about to get Burnham who is unelected

Tell that to the voters of Makerfield.

Because his party and the people who support him don’t care. They literally don’t give a shit. They look for the evidence that supports their world view and reject anything else. Some are incapable of critical thinking and for others it’s just wilful blindness.

Well said 👏😊

You might be in luck OP, he's making a statement at 2pm!

To be fair I see this exact behaviour in many people, whatever party they support or side of the political spectrum they fall on.

I believe it is a fundamental failure of our university and education system.

?

You can't have one without the other, surely ?

Is not the conscience the source of guilt ?

(Sounds like an A-level question in the making there 😀)

Furthermore; is it the act or the thought ? I mean is the act of taking £5,000,000 regardless of rules a sin if the mind was pure ?

As is probably dawning on the more perceptive readers, Farage and morality are pretty much like oil and water when it comes to mixing.

I’m engaged in a philosophical discussion with myself here after posting that. Hence the edit.

Guilt has a legal meaning as well as an emotional one IYSWIM. You can objectively be guilty of breaking a rule or law without actually feeling guilty about that.

Pretty sure the tetchy cagey think is because he knows he is guilty of breaking the rules and getting found out is going to have consequences for him. Not that he feels guilty about doing it because he’s developed a conscience.

Maybe anxious or worried better describes his actual feeling.

Oh the comments indeed! 😳🤣

I've got family in Clacton who are highly unimpressed with Farage's performance as their MP. They are swinging hard to Restore and there's no guarantee he would survive a by-election.

Even the Telegraph are turning on Farage.

I've got a sibling in Jaywick who voted for him and thinks he's "a great geezer". I bet they'd vote for him again.

Sibling has significant MH issues, and I suspect they affect their judgment.

I’m increasingly convinced this has a lot to do with social media. It allows communities to be built by shared opinion or belief which you can easily be accepted into or kicked out of depending on if that belief fits or not. Alongside it being much easier to be really awful to faceless people you only ever know online than it is face to face.

in RL communities you tend to be forced into groups of varying beliefs about different things and you are much more likely to just have to get on with people and figure out how to get through on the things you do agree on and out the differences aside for a bit.

As long as you aren’t a MNer and go NC with everyone.

Locutus2000 · Yesterday 12:42

So his options are either quit or launch an onslaught upon the 'deep state' conspiring against him and vow to fight on.

2pm will be entertaining.

He is making a statement later today about his future in public life. I hope it is ciao!

I agree OP. I also agree with @LoftyPlumLion
We are about to get Burnham who is unelected & wants to cause chaos & expense moving Govt to Manchester. We have Badenoch who cosplays Thatcher. Polanski the ex hypnotist who wants to leave NATO & empty prisons. Davey has his moments but will never be PM. No wonder dangerous grifters like Farage get traction.

Burnham was elected in Makerfield.
If you mean we did not elect him as Prime Minister (which he isn't yet) that's because we don't directly elect the PM in this country. We did not elect Johnson, May, Truss, or Sunak to be PM either or Cameron, come to that, because that is not how it works.

Apparently Mr Farage is making a statement at 2pm today.

It's going to be self aggrandising as always. It's the only mode he has.

1dayatatime · Yesterday 12:51

Just as with Starmer or Trump, absent from the calls for Farage to go, is any thoughts on who would replace him?

I've seen it in multiple elections and leadership challenges is the view of let's replace him / her because whoever comes next can't be any worse and they invariably are. Although the replacement for Liz Truss (Sunak) admittedly had a fairly low hurdle to improve upon.

RafaistheKingofClay · Yesterday 12:52

I’m guessing it’s going to be ciao I’m off and the blame placed firmly on the media and the danger they have placed him and his family in.

And he’s retired from public office before. So what ‘r’ words are left for his next political venture/ltd private company pretending to be a party in 6-12 months? Restore, reform and reclaim have already gone.

Pistachiocake · Yesterday 12:52

More bothered about the ones that call themselves socialist and make money from council houses/have 3 properties etc. I might not like what the right wing lot do, but at least they're not betraying socialist principles.
Also, lots of people like his stand on what a woman/man is.

Jenrick. I’d put money on him being behind the increased media interest too.

Rumour had it at the time he was annoyed he’d left the Tories thinking there was an opportunity to be party leader and he was disappointed when he got there.

Which nobody except a bunch of vocal online people cares about on a day to day basis or in elections.

Hence the fact that during the last election when we were told on here it was vitally important for winning an election the parties campaigning on it had the floor wiped by the parties who were a bit sketchy on what was what.

Not saying that I disagree with the point that TW are not women but in most people’s day to day lives it isn’t making it into the top 5 issues most people face.

Regurgitate?

If he does go, watch the remaining former Tories all fighting in a sack with Tice and Yusuf over who'll take over.
