To not understand why Farage hasn’t been forced out yet?

Let’s call a spade a spade…

when a person takes multiple ‘gifts’ from various shady sources they aren’t nice presents from one kind person to another. They. Are. Bribes.

Regardless of whether we agree with Nige on any of his policies, or that a woman is a woman or whatever else…

surely it’s clear the man is a crook?

They were declared as per the rules unlike Farage's £5 million, from a crypto businessman, which he suddenly went and chatted to the Bank of England about. Do you not grasp the difference?

Well Keir Starmer is about to stand down as Labour leader, so logic dictates Farage should stand down as leader of Reform 🤷‍♀️

Why ?
Starmer's standing down because his own party are sick of him and his ineffectual behaviour.
Any more U turns and he'll be meeting Anthony Albanese.

I think he has the same sort of appeal as Trump. Trump is a convicted felon (amongst other things) but it doesn't put of his supporters, even those who claim to be Christians.

Basically, the sort of people who support Farage don't care about dodgy dealings.

TirednessOnToast · Yesterday 11:43

@IrisPallida I really hope you are correct, but that the vacuum left by NF isn't filled by Rupert Lowe - another divisive grifter who will do great harm to the UK.

I don’t think the comparison with KS is similar . There are strict guidelines on this that were updated by KS . NF has tried to get round it by saying they were personal / friends . Guidelines refer to “status as an MP “ and obviously do not cover personal gifts between eg family members . This is not what we are dealing with here .
I think there are a lot of factions in the R party and lots of backstabbing . Similar to all parties I suppose .
I look to politicians ( perhaps naively ) to have good moral fibre . I am not saying that people get to high positions of power without ambition and without an element of “ self serving “ , but so depressing when this is the only thing that motivates them and no grounding in morality .

I saw on the news last night interviews with people in NF’s constituency discussing this topic . Only 1 out of 4 interviewed had any reservations about this . It seemed that they weren’t really bothered about conduct as long as NF got results .

NF is back in favour in the US , there seemed to be a cooling of relations previously . He was pictured with Vance at the 4 July celebrations .

You also have to ask yourself why NOW?

Losing Makerfield won't have helped. Especially as (a) he didn't campaign there (so a clear message to Reform candidates they are now on their own. Not great with the Mayoral election imminent). and (b) the loss was catastrophically bad for Reform. It's hard to express it concisely.

Also Farage has been poncing about for two years on a lot of donated money and has fuck all to show for it. Meanwhile some loser socialist mayor of a provincial backwater[1] just becomes PM in five weeks.

[1]Not my views, but certainly what the people who give money to people like Farage would be thinking.

And Makerfield came after another high profile by-election that halted the whole "Reform are unstoppable, Farage will be our next PM" narrative that some of our more imaginative posters may have fallen for.

Repeated polling that tends to get lost among the clickbait has shown that the current limit to Reforms growth is very much Nigel Farage.

When you pop that into the blender of modern life, it suggests that someone, somewhere has divined that now it's more lucrative to bet against Farage than for.

From what I know or have read about politicians, most have done a lot worse than what Farage has allegedly done. I believe whatever they’re accusing him of was BEFORE he was an MP so not really applicable.

Most?

That’s a lot of people you are talking about there!

being given gifts of millions of quid by mates is really not a normal thing to happen?

Farage can't be bothered with leading the party anymore. Reported on times radio that he's tired and miserable. Definitely don't want someone like that in charge of a political party. He needs to call time on his grift and naff off.

I must have missed "most" MPs being suspended and recalled...

Financially no, but the principle is the same.

Not really since he declared them, and is the actual prime minister or was leader of the opposition and receiving gifts is quite normal in those positions or other ministerial/shadow positions.

I don’t think you need to be particularly mathematically able to see the difference between 107k in gifts and hospitality (not all cash) over 7 years and 2 questionable houses, £5m in cash and whatever this last lot uncovered was in much less time. And that’s just the stuff uncovered so far.

The big giveaway is the attitude. He’s all charm and cool as a cucumber with journalists even when bullshitting (which is most of his content). He actively courts the media and it’s a huge part of the ukip/brexit party/reform support. He only loses his cool when he’s been found out. And he’s cagey, loses his cool and is actively avoiding the media - including his weekly press conferences- over all of these stories. It’s an enormous tell of his that he thinks he’s done something wrong.

He looked very haggard and pissed off in the Sky clip that is doing the rounds. He can't cope with being held to account.

However, we then remember it's Reform supporters we are talking about. For many of whom facts (when they find them) are inconvenient.

It's possible that his conscience wasn't completely excised, and has regrown. Bit like an annoying cyst.

menopause59 · Yesterday 12:11

It is very sad but no matter what he does people will always support him and I have no idea why.

Last week a lady called into the Jermey Vine show and said "she didn't care if he tied up his Gran and fed her cat food she would still vote for him"

So in answer tro your question he hasn't been forced out as he is still loved.

Locutus2000 · Yesterday 12:11

I've got family in Clacton who are highly unimpressed with Farage's performance as their MP. They are swinging hard to Restore and there's no guarantee he would survive a by-election.

Even the Telegraph are turning on Farage.

Farage claimed he is different. The truth is much cheaper

As Reform is rocked by another funding scandal, its leader’s faux ‘man of the people’ act is finally being exposed

I think you have confused conscience and guilt there

ETA: guilt in a this is bad for me way not the sort of social conscience I’ve done something wrong and feel bad way.

Yes, the Tory resurrection may have to wait yet.

I agree OP. I also agree with @LoftyPlumLion
We are about to get Burnham who is unelected & wants to cause chaos & expense moving Govt to Manchester. We have Badenoch who cosplays Thatcher. Polanski the ex hypnotist who wants to leave NATO & empty prisons. Davey has his moments but will never be PM. No wonder dangerous grifters like Farage get traction.

And we had Mr. Nice and Stable aaaaaaaaaaannnnnnddddd, he was forced out.

We're doomed.

Edited

?

You can't have one without the other, surely ?

Is not the conscience the source of guilt ?

(Sounds like an A-level question in the making there 😀)

Furthermore; is it the act or the thought ? I mean is the act of taking £5,000,000 regardless of rules a sin if the mind was pure ?

As is probably dawning on the more perceptive readers, Farage and morality are pretty much like oil and water when it comes to mixing.

Wonderful little gem of a film ... sort of companion to "Withnail and I". Have they been mentioned on the film thread ?
