If you support anyone but England in football or other sports do you dislike English people generally or is it just in sports?

Well done, good job! Will y'all shut the fuck up about it now? No thought not.

1966, Maradonna hand of God, yadda yadda. Insufferable when you win, insufferable when you lose. Basically just fucking insufferable.

Omg unclench a little bit 🤣🤣🤣

Do you mean the Green Brigade?

I mean the pitch invasion by Celtic fans, and the physical and verbal abuse of Hearts players and staff.

Err it's relevant because you keep wittering on about the English being responsible for Brexit all by themselves?

NI's Leave vote was 44%.
Your wonderful Scotland's Leave vote was 38%.

They're hardly tiny percentages, are they?

No wittering on, I mentioned it ONCE and that was in relation to the original OP asking if this was just about football. For me it's not.

In the FA cup? An English cup?

PhaedraTwo · Today 13:25

So far as England banging on about 1966 I think I've heard far more whinging by Scottish people complaining about the the English banging on about it than English people banging on about it.

JontyGentooey · Today 13:26

Differentforgirls · Today 13:15

Doesn’t matter. We voted remain.

Hmm except it mahoosively did matter on the day, seeing as the total number of Leave ballots ended up being higher than the Remain ones. Regardless of where in the UK they all came from! 🤦‍♀️

I always support Scotland when it's them playing not England and I hope one day they will have their own world cup victory to bang on about

Of course it did which is why I wish Yes won in 2014.

Oh whatever - some Scottish cup. Hearts were in with a chance of winning it for the first time in ages. Celtic fans invaded the pitch. Hearts team had to leave without even changing.

There is no way you’re Scottish.

BillieWiper · Today 13:29

No I think it's about the far right. As unfortunately they have adopted the English flag as their symbol. So people fear that English people are xenophobic or racist? I'm just guessing here.

I guess we are renowned for historically bad behaviour during football. Hooliganism etc. But that isn't a big part of the game anymore in the UK I don't think. But I guess they can get really drunk still!

Oh bore off. I've no interest in Scottish football. I was born in Scotland, did a law degree in Scotland, live in Edinburgh and am a solicitor in Scotland.

I don't support separatism.

Scottish league game. Whoever won it won the league. Hearts players had to run for the changing rooms.

Yet apparently it is just banter and no hate.

At least you know! I think you’re secretly Scottish 🤣❤️

The anti-English feeling in Scotland is stronger than any English person would ever believe. Culturally, they really hate you guys - and that hatred is totally acceptable in a way that any other kind of prejudice wouldn't be.

How would you know?

Make that make sense.

I guess in the way that people might say they hate the USA but not have a personal dislike of people from there. Russia isn't too popular either. It's actually a very different thing. You can dislike what a country represents without taking it to the level of racism. Any country with a colonial past or controversial history in international politics is going to be hated by others. People understand the leaders of a country don't represent the average person so it's not a personal thing.

I agree. I'm Scottish but my husband's bother who is a rabid separatist supporter thought it was funny the first time I met him to mock my accent as not being Scottish enough.

His idiot wife goes on about "white settlers*

I'm Irish and it's more jokey here mostly imo, I don't dislike English people at all. I would definitely shout for you lot against the USA 😂

An Irish* acquaintance of mine is supporting England so hard he is following the team to the matches. Dunno how he managed it.

(He has the most English name on the planet mind so not sure what his full heritage is.)

Well not everyone does but about half of SNP supporters must do it through utter loathing of England. There’s no other coherent reason why such dire, corrupt, sleazy little politicians are voted for time and again.

And yet nearly a million Scots live in England. Many English people do the reverse.

And Scottish and English people live, work, form friendships, get married together all the time.

Sure, there are resentments, which come out more at certain times, but your post is a massive exaggeration. You're not American by any chance?
