not the first time i have done this and the teachers have always looked really pleased before

but

after buying the wine this morning i met another school mum on the walk home and told her where i had been/what i was buying and she thinks that it is offencive to buy someone wine you dont know that well

1/ i should not be taking it onto school grounds
2/ they may not like wine and be offended that i think they do

in a bit of a panic now incase this is the case, last day of nursery is this afternoon!!!

She sounds like a bundle of laughs!

I have friends who are teachers and they like to receive wine. They hate getting chocs! Even if they are not drinkers, it's good to have it around.

Perfectly good gift imo

Love2bake · 25/06/2008 11:36

The other mum is being ridiculous!!

The teachers at our school get at least 12 bottles EACH and then about the same in chocolates.

Don't worry, if she doesn't like wine, I bet she knows someone who does

sagacious · 25/06/2008 11:36

Whaaaat?

I give the teachers/TA's wine every year

The other mum is odd

justkeepswimming · 25/06/2008 11:36

kerryk · 25/06/2008 11:36

As a former teacher , I always wanted more wine as presents. The male teachers (especially PE) consistently received vast quantities of alcohol as compared to female teachers.

I would not be offended at all- I would not givealcohol if the teracher was known to bepregnant, or hadmadeit known that she/he was a teetotaller(or alcoholic....)

RosaLuxembunting · 25/06/2008 11:37

Wine is good. Teachers like. Oh yes.

cheesesarnie · 25/06/2008 11:37

what a twit.
give teacher the wine.if she refuses i'll have it

Mummywannabe · 25/06/2008 11:37

I think its a lovely thought. As a nursery manager i have been given wine when i wouldn't normally buy it for myself (36 weeks pregnant) but always appreciated the thought.

kerryk · 25/06/2008 11:37

x posts with everyone, thank you. thats put my mind at rest. i would LOVE to get so much wine.

well I'm buying ds's teacher some wine ! he's a man too so wouldn't neccessarily appreciate chocolates or nice soaps etc

belgo · 25/06/2008 11:39

Do I need to get dd1's teacher an end of term present???

waffletrees · 25/06/2008 11:39

I always buy wine or choccies. Can't stand all that "best teacher in the world" crap emblazened on it. I always think that they must just chuck it in the bin as soon as they get home. If they don't like wine they can always pass it on to their friends and family.

TigerFeet · 25/06/2008 11:39

Shouldn't be taking it onto school grounds? Why? Will the children raid the staffroom and hold a raucous party?

I'm not a teacher, but if I were, I would be utterly delighted with wine.

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/06/2008 11:40

you don't need to but it's a nice way to say thanks !

belgo · 25/06/2008 11:41

can I get my dd1 to make a thank you card instead?

kerryk · 25/06/2008 11:41

i know a lot of our mums dont give presents, at christmas i was the only one which i found quite sad.

belgo · 25/06/2008 11:45
