Can you lie on a sunbed?

Whyarepeopletalkingaboutchristmas · Yesterday 09:21

When I was younger, I could lie on a sunbed for hours-big stack of magazines/books, music, a cocktail…heaven!
Now, not so much. I can’t sit still for long enough, can’t really concentrate on my book for long, even in the shade-def can’t lie directly in the sun
I just find it quite boring now-also can’t drink anymore as feel crap afterwards
Is it age-late 40’s, peri, having kids, what?

All the things I once loved doing, I can’t

Least you are not down at 5 am to put your towel down anymore 😀 I have never really been a sunbed person I never found them comfortable i just find a nice seat with a table instead and I park there.

I’m mid 50s and I can lie on a sunbed on holiday and relax and read a book, teenage daughter alongside me doing the same. But at home I struggle to sit out as there’s always something needs doing! I’m newly menopausal. I don’t drink often anymore.

FrothyCothy · Yesterday 09:26

I’ve gone the other way around - never really did a lie by the pool holiday until I was in my 40s and never saw the appeal, but on a recent rare AI holiday I said to DH I could see us coming away, once the kids have moved out, to an adult only resort to sit by the pool and read for a week, as I finally got it.

I think screens have really dented my attention span but oddly since starting weight loss injections I seem to be able to focus on reading again.

PumpkinPie2016 · Yesterday 09:27

No, never have been able to - I can't sit still for long enough 😂

DH is the same and always has been.

When on holiday, we like going for walks etc. Generally being quite active.

FrothyCothy · Yesterday 09:27

Oh but drinking - no - anything more than 3 drinks results in massive hangxiety the next day now unless I’m in a very particular set of circumstances/with certain people.

thejelliclecats · Yesterday 09:29

Oh I definitely can, but only in the shade and with lots of snacks and drinks alongside my books 😂

mynameiscalypso · Yesterday 09:35

My back hurts now if I lie on a sun bed for too long. FML.

Any1ForTennis · Yesterday 09:36

I can usually manage an hour then I get bored and there's always someone in the vicinity that starts to irritate me (loud talking, scratching, endless eating, bending over thong wearer, rearranging their bollocks etc).

I do manage a bit longer if I have a room with a private pool so it's just DH and I chilling out in peace so I tend to book those these days.

Oh no thank you ! dont get that on a comfortable chair 😀

whippersnapper55 · Yesterday 13:07

I've always found it boring and I don't like the sun! I'd rather be swimming or walking around sightseeing.

Gwenhwyfar · Yesterday 13:09

There's something in the middle between being on a sun lounger for hours and having an active holiday. Lounge around and read, but move from place to place, for example. Sit in cafes and take gentle strolls...

cramptramp · Yesterday 17:45

I can. But now I listen to podcasts instead of reading all day.

SoBoredOfSelfDoubtHowToGetOut · Yesterday 17:46

Not any more. I don’t like lying in the sun at all. I used to love it.

youalright · Yesterday 17:52

Yes love it. A frozen dacquri, a book/magazine, and then jump in the pool when I get to hot

PinkNailPolish2026 · Yesterday 17:57

A good podcast or an audio book, suntan lotion, water, the odd dip in the pool to cool off, bliss. We plan our holidays carefully as DH is one of those super active ants in his pants type of people so we need a gym and plenty of physical things for him to do, he loves water polo, beach volleyball etc if we’re having a pool day. It’s a bit like going on holiday with a toddler 🤣 Other days we explore, find nice restaurants etc.

Myli1 · Yesterday 18:02

I can’t drink alcohol during the day anymore without it making me headachy or at least very lethargic, but I can quite happily lie in the sun all day with a good novel, interspersed with swimming in the sea or pool to cool off. Preferably a naturist-friendly beach so I don’t have to lie in soggy wet swimwear after a dip.

Seaitoverthere · Yesterday 18:03

My idea of hell and have only done it for very short periods of time when younger. I’d rather not go on holiday than do that.

Iam the same,on holiday i can lay out 10 hrs a day, reading, sleeping, swimming. I cant do an hour in uk!!

BeardySchnauzer · Yesterday 18:04

I hate it. Always an activity on holiday (city break/safari/multi center with a mix of things to do)

sadly my family like beach holidays so I’ve been stuck with those since they’re teens. I hate sand, hate swimming in the sea and not keen on the sun. Can’t wait🙄

BooBooDoodle · Yesterday 18:07

I’m in perimenopause, 46 yo. When I’m on holiday I dump myself on a sunbed and read. I can get through a book a day. I can do whatever I want, zero pressure or expectation. I’ll eat, drink, swim and I relax. At home I’m a stressed/anxious mess and constantly on the go. I feel guilty if I sit down for longer than 10 minutes. I also get stress related pain and flare ups most days. I’m pain free when on holiday. It’s liberating.

Monty36 · Yesterday 18:17

I used to but less so now. To sunbathe I have to have water. But a private pool.
And cannot do it all day. Shade also needed sometimes.
Full on sun all day as when young; no.

SinceYoureGayAndAddictedToHeroin · Yesterday 18:17

What's your phone use like? I got like this, not just holidays but everything - couldn't sit through a film, got anxious about long journeys. I was addicted to scrolling through meaningless nonsense. It took conscious effort to beat it. Leaving my phone in a different room for the evening/turning it off so wasn't tempted/going without for longer and longer periods etc.

Changedname12345 · Yesterday 18:21

I can do a whole month in canaries with a lot of exercise/activity in the morning yoga, swim in sea, run, gym, aqua aerobics, Pilates and then afternoon on a sun lounger by pool with sun umbrella like a little camp. With iPad, phone, book, sun cream, water with dips in the lovely pool. Heaven.

fatphalange · Yesterday 18:22

Other way round for me, I was restless and on the go as a young en. Now it’s the getting up part that’s an effort!

Honeyhonayboo · Yesterday 18:23

Mid-late 30s and I can absolutely lie on a sunbed. Iced coffee, a book followed by an aperol spritz and a coffee, bliss.
But with 2 young kids it’s only ever possible in maybe 1 hour chunks.
