She types like shes playing a piano! Its so irritating but I dont know why. Its the most random way of typing Ive ever seen.

I know I'm not your colleague as I work alone in my home office - however, I type exactly as you describe. Sorry OP, but if it's any comfort she's not the only one! 😂

LifeBeginsToday · 02/07/2026 13:14

Oh no, I have just started piano lessons after 20 years working in an office. Maybe I'm doomed and will play the piano like I'm typing.

cattreats · 02/07/2026 13:21

If you're that irritated, may I suggest that you're actually stressed about something else? How your colleague is sitting and typing shouldn't affect you. You're triggering yourself here and having all the stress responses that are making you feel worse.

Ethelspagetti · 02/07/2026 13:28

I had a colleague who kept fruit and a potato on her in tray. She’d leave it to rot, throw it away and replace with fresh fruit and a potato! Never ever saw her eat any of it! Such a vicious circle continued for years!

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 02/07/2026 13:30

... a potato?
I mean, fruit I can get. But a 🥔?

IReallyNeedATimeMachine · 02/07/2026 13:54

I get where you're coming from. I am currently sitting here listing to a colleague who types really loudly. There are 8 other people in the office & they can manage to type quietly. I can't even get away from it at home because my husband works at home in our spare bedroom & when I'm downstairs, it sounds like baby elephants tap dancing on the keyboard!

BarefootAndDancing · 02/07/2026 14:09

Not trying to excuse myself here, but in my case it's because I taught myself to type many moons ago, bashing away on my mum's old mechanical Olivetti. Silent touch-typing just wasn't a thing in those days ...

evilharpy · 02/07/2026 14:36

I'm trying to picture this. Is it that she has her wrists in the air rather than resting on the desk?

Lexy2345 · 02/07/2026 14:54

Please explain more about the potato. Was it cooked or raw?

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · 02/07/2026 15:04

I love a clicky clacky keyboard. But I find it painful watching one-finger typists.

Its really hard to describe too, but its almost like her wrists are slightly raised and her fingers tap the keys very gently and dramatically. If you saw it you'd understand 🤣

Winefride · 02/07/2026 17:04

Do you mean touch typing? As in, she doesn't have to look at the keys and types fluidly?

WonderingWanda · 02/07/2026 17:06

This sounds quite normal for touch typing. How do you type op? With two fingers very slowly?

AWeeCupOfTeaAndAnIndividualFruitTrifle · 02/07/2026 17:07

Does she have a piano at home that she plays like she's using a keyboard - and does she keep accidentally punching herself in the stomach when she thinks she's hitting an imaginary space bar?!

RosieHosie · 02/07/2026 17:14

Worse was the guy who typed so hard everyone else's desk in the bank of desks shook!

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 02/07/2026 17:14

Does she sway back and forth like a piano player?

I need a bit more about the potato tbh. Is it cooked and edible? Is it an emotional support potato?

Yes a massive raw baking potato on her in/out tray! I asked her how she was going to eat it? She replied, I’ll microwave it if I ever get hungry! I always saw her in the canteen eating cheese and chips and she’d say, you didn’t see this! 😂 I literally do not care if she eats cheese on chips every day! I just care she lets fruit and a potato decay on her desk. I was there for 8 years and it continued until I left. Love to go back and visit to see if she still does it now! 😜

PenelopeJoanSterling · 02/07/2026 17:15

they have vape breaks yet moan about tea drinkers breaks

PuppyMonkey · 02/07/2026 17:22

I still have flashbacks to a colleague at a former workplace who SHOUTED SO LOUDLY ON THE PHONE PEOPLE RIGHT AT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MASSIVE OPEN PLAN OFFICE USED TO LOOK UP AND GO Hmm.

Shudder.

An emotional support potato! 🥔 😂 She did it for the whole 8 years I worked there! 😳 She clearly didn’t like it because it always went in the bin whenever people complained about the decaying smell. I’d have cereal bars, pasta mugs, soup packets and small water bottles in and under my desk!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 02/07/2026 17:25

I can’t type.

My fingers peck at the keyboard like a pigeon trying to eat from the ground.

Every job interview I always feel the need to say, “BTW, I can’t actually type..!” because I’m so ashamed of my sad typing efforts.

I thought it must have been to warn-off evil spirits,🤷‍♀️ not that I’ve ever heard of a potato being used for this before.

Does she do it in a performative way, or does it look natural-for-her?
