To have bawled like a baby

To have bawled like a baby in Toy Story 5?

I’ve got three neurodivergent kids, and am AuDHD myself. It was such a hard hitter from beginning to end! I haven’t been able to find much online in the way of theories of Bonnie being autistic but it was so obvious right from the little sunflower on her dress at the start, her repetitive play (mom: “how was the wedding this time?”) and her obvious social anxiety. Right down to befriending a slightly older kid (Bonnie being 8 and Blaze 9 and a half). Both the girls not being able to easily make friends, the exclusion and cyber bullying. Good lord. I sobbed! All three DC looking at me like I was mad…!

Not seen it but I saw it had mixed reviews so didn’t expect it to be good. Glad you liked it. I’ve no idea if Bonnie is supposed to be autistic. Some of the things you list could just be any child.

I'm going at the weekend, I'm just commenting so I might remember to come back after seeing it (I never remember about the watch list rather than "I'm on")

I didn’t pick up on that but then I only saw some of it as my younger DC was being a bit tricky in the cinema. I didn’t like what I did see though. It’s Toy Story 3 that’s the tear jerker.

I was in an audience of men bawling at Toy Story 2 when Andy gave away the toys so I doubt you're alone

firstofallimadelight · 01/07/2026 07:15

I loved it but to me Bonnie just seemed like a shy imaginative child.
im autistic too.

ClearFruit · 01/07/2026 07:28

It has nothing to do with autism.

Honeyhonayboo · 01/07/2026 07:30

That doesn’t point to autism at all.

Toy Story 3 absolutely broke me. I've made a point of not watching it again and won't watch the subsequent films.

Social anxiety and having a slightly older friend does not mean someone is autistic.

It’s my five year olds favourite film 😩 and it still chokes me even though I’ve seen it so many times. It also makes it so darn difficult to get rid of any toys 😂

My DDs went to watch it on Sunday. They said it was brilliant but they didn't say anything about Bonnie being autistic. I think they would have picked up on it as DD2 is autistic.
Regardless they really enjoyed it.

Babyputyourpantson · 01/07/2026 08:18

I mean I cried but I cried during most of them 😂

Didn't get Bonnie being autistic at all tbh

It came out the year after my then 6yo left her beloved Build a Bear at an art session on holiday and never got her back.

The scene where the toys are left out in the rain and wondering where their child is and why they're not coming 😭😭😭.

I only hope whoever made off with DDs bear loved her just as much.

NB Happy Ending...

We managed to get an identical replacement - told DD she'd taken herself on a spa break, and have just ordered her a gown and hat so she can graduate with DD in two weeks time 😁

I saw it at the cinema and tears were rolling. I told my husband I almost wanna cry out loud at the end not just because of the storyline but also the sheer brilliance of it!
