Bums hanging out of the bottom of teeny tiny shorts

Don’t know if this really AIBU or a question!
AIBU to think that shorts have become way too short ?
I have seen a LOT of girls in shorts today - with their bum cheeks hanging out the bottom ! Personally I wouldn’t let my daughter out like that. And I wouldn’t were them myself (I would give everyone nightmares !).
so what’s the consensus on bums hanging out of shorts ?

Yesterday in town a girl aged about 16 was walking towards me with her boyfriend. She was wearing a pair of those “arse cheeks hanging out shorts” but had the zip and button undone so I could see the top of her pants.

I looked at DC who was with me and we were no the aghast.

The only word for that was grim.

I've seen this lately too on young women. Not hotpants, not Daisy Dukes, but just plain naked bum cheeks right out in a busy city street. I do try not to be judgemental about sexy clothes and while I don't really like thong swimsuits, they don't seem out of place in a pool or beach. But essentially naked bums on the high street does feel really off and I really can't help thinking it just looks horrible whatever the person's physique. It's just an unpleasant aesthetic.

I know I'm getting old but while I wore some crazy stuff in my youth, I never had my arse full out in public.

SunnySunnyDayz · Yesterday 21:22

Is the bar really 'as long as you can't see labia'??

I think it's inappropriate, people used to dress appropriately to the situation. Clothes like this are suitable for beach or clubbing not the supermarket.

This is what I don’t get. Why they were fine in the 1970s but why the women who were born in the 1970s only have an issue with girls wearing them today.

And I speak as a conservative dresser.

Those are all longer than what girls are wearing. They wear them under very rolled up school skirts too.

Just like a 60s mini skirt is longer.

Baggy jeans are also in fashion. It doesn't make much sense!

But those are just shorts

No one is objecting to those kind of shorts.

It's the ones that don't cover your bum that people are talking about

I'm glad someone has mentioned this.
I cringe seeing women and young girls showing the shape of the most intimate part of their body in public, why would you want to do that??

What's the male equivalent of this, oh there isn't one. Funny that.

The male equivalent of camel toe is often on show in our local cycle track cafe.
Chipolata in lycra.
It's bloody grim.

DanceMumTaxi · Yesterday 21:26

I really hate it. You can have short shorts without arse cheek hanging out. Round here this last week local schools have let the kids come in PE kit. The boys all had normal length shorts (like football shorts) but the girls were a different style. They’re a much shorter style than the boys and there was definitely bum cheek hanging out and this is for school! It’s obscene. I think some of the older girls are squeezing into the shorts they had in year 7.

Oh god. Awful but true!

shuggles · Yesterday 21:26

@Noodleschicken Seems a bit weird that you are wanting to control women's bodies, and wanting to control something that does not affect you in any way, shape, or form.

Strangecat · Yesterday 21:26

Honestly it’s ridiculous to follow this type of fashion and let our kids go out in no clothes. Freedom is one thing but dressing up in a way that exposes private parts is distasteful!
The world is already full of pedos!

There's no evidence that women wearing revealing clothes causes paedophilia.

I’m torn between people should wear what they want and sod the male gaze and we shouldn’t be showing off our bits for men to ogle!

I am 58. If I had a bum that looked good hanging out of teeny tiny shorts I would do it. Sadly if I did people would think I had a growth on the back of my knees.

If they have it let them flaunt it. Why, as women, do we feel it is okay to criticise other women!

It isnt women. It is girls. Children and teenage girls.

we have the same at school. The skirts are so short we can see butt cheeks.

The usual fatuous answer.

But it’s rather a fatuous thread.

These fashions are not new and honestly why are people so invested in what other people are wearing.

MidnightMeltdown · Yesterday 21:29

I saw one the other day and did a double take! 😂

She wasn’t very old, definitely still in her teens. I thought it was pretty disturbing to be honest.

If it had been an older woman I would have assumed that she was a sex worker.

I knew someone would try to draw a parallel with this.

Wearing lycra for a particular sport, like cycling or swimming isn't the same as walking around in public showing your bottom. It's embarrassing.

flowerpot13 · Yesterday 21:31

Like a recent thread explains there is less respect for others in general now. I see people wearing clothes that show the outline of their boobs/bums. No there is nothing wrong with their bodies but some things are private and I think it's rude to impose it on someone else. But I've realised it's what's easiest to buy, trendiest or easiest to put on that leads people to buy those kinds of clothes. I don't like any clothes that even show the outline of my bum. So for example, I wouldn't wear leggings without a long top or dress. My bum isn't flat, so I wouldn't wear jogging pants either. I only wear skirts if it's warm and I'll have a long top over that too. I wear natural materials that won't cause me to sweat though.

It was better round here when the kids wore PE kits - the PE skirts are naturally quite short but they are pleated so hard to roll up, and looked fine. The usual skirts are supposed to be longer, but get rolled up to show arse cheek, so the PE kit looked a lot smarter

My local secondary thinks it’s really modern and hip by having no uniform and it’s arse hanging out shorts or ‘leggings’ that are just 40 denier tights that are the fashion with the 11-18 year olds. It is indeed a paedos dream.

No sport going on in the cafe though.

If you follow the thread you will see the parrallel here is with the camel toe, not the bum shorts.

CorporealCarrot · Yesterday 21:34

I think teens can probably wear what they like in their own time, but school skirts so short they show arse cheek makes a mockery of the uniform system - and I think that whatever the gender, no-one should be in a school uniform which shows arse

IkeaMeatballGravy · Yesterday 21:34

Ergh I hate it to OP, I don't want to see anyone's arse. I also hate when men walk about without t-shirts on, especially in places like the supermarket. It just looks grim.

Nipples, arses, vulvas and penises should all be covered up as a minimum.

deeahgwitch · Yesterday 21:35

MrsTerryPratchett · Yesterday 20:44

I hate it. But I also think women should wear what they like. But I also think it’s for the male gaze. But I also… what can you do?

I agree. With all those sentiments @MrsTerryPratchett

Eumaybe · Yesterday 21:36

Greedybilly · Yesterday 21:18

Fashion dictated by the male gaze innit? I mean - are men doing it?

Thank you!
Thats exactly what I think. Men don’t do it at all, in fact they might be reported for indecent exposure if they do.
