AIBU to think Walkers Ready Salted crisps have gone downhill lately? Can anyone recommend me an alternative?

We used to like walkers ready salted crisps but lately almost half of the packs we get taste stale or even mouldy, even though they're well within date. Does anyone know a more reliable alternative? Are any of the more expensive ones better? I just want to be able to eat some crisps knowing they're going to be nice and not mouldy!

Ooooo you’ve gotta try Lidl’s crinkle cut ready salted! They’re bloody amazing! Just the right amount of salt and a good crunch! (DH has to pause the telly when I’m eating them as he can’t stand the noise!)

Seabrooks
Crisp Royalty

I have noticed the stale taste as well, thought at first it was a rogue pack but they all taste like it

Mama2many73 · 28/06/2026 20:40

I buy seabrooks and normally love them...however last 6 pk I bought had 2 which weren't sealed properly so were not 'crisp'.
Hoping its a 1 off!

SqueakyFromme · 28/06/2026 20:40

Definitely second seabrooks

fluffiphlox · 28/06/2026 20:45

Tesco Finest Lightly Sea Salted.

I think it’s cheap oil. I’m over them too. Pretty much anything else is nicer. Plus the price is ridiculous.

IberianLynx · 28/06/2026 21:36

Haven’t noticed any mould or soft/stale crisps but agree that the ready salted walkers have changed (in a bad way). Considering that there are only 3 ingredients it must either be the oil or different type of potato. Aldis ‘hand cooked’ ready salted are tasty and crunchy.

SquigglePigs · 28/06/2026 22:08

Another vote for Seabrooks

Golden Wonder or Tayto

Velumental · 28/06/2026 22:17

Seabrooks or golden wonder

I bought some recently, ready salted are my favourite flavour crisps, yet they tasted awful. They had a really weird taste.

Seabrooks are the best.

Tesco Finest Lightly Sea Salted.

Edited

I second this.

Marianne04 · 28/06/2026 22:46

Thanks for all the suggestions! It sounds like Seabrooks and Tesco finest might be the best bet I'll give both a go.

I second this.

I third this. Tescos Finest Lightly Salted.
They are dangerous though, all too easy to eat a family pack to yourself!.
Edited for typo

Clevs · 28/06/2026 22:55

McCoys.

thestudio · 28/06/2026 23:01

Tesco’s ‘posh’ own brand ready salted are without a doubt the best I’ve ever had. And cheap!

They are nice but the rest of their crisps are awful

Another vote for Seabrooks + Mccoys.

No problems with Aldi crisps either (the Snackrite ones)

Tescos own brand ready salted are excellent

The Asda Cheese and Onion 6 packs for £1 are nice.

Can’t speak for Ready Salted, they are unwelcome in this house.

Tesco haven’t had their own brand Cheese & Onion crisps for months, must be a supply issue around here.
