Sandals and crusty feet at work

AIBU to think that walking sandals and flip flops are not professional workwear? Yes, it’s been ridiculously hot, but I don’t want to see brittle yellow toenails, crusty dry skin and, in one case, flakes and chunks of skin hanging off the manky trotters of my colleagues 🤮 At the very least, if we are going to be subjected to your toe cleavage, have a pedicure first. And don’t get me started on the smelly ones!

Of course exfoliation and moisturizing are personal hygiene.

No - you have been misled

hygiene - keeping things clean and free from things like bacteria than can smell or spread germs

exfoliation and moisturer - removing layers of skin to achieve a particular look. Skin can be smooth and mistrusted and unhygienic all at the same time and indeed moisturiser may make that more likely - spreading a layer of oil on your skin probably helps the bugs keep tight hold

If you aren't removing decomposing skin from your body you aren't clean. People do not all shed skin in a similar way - some people don't need to exfoliate nearly as much as others. But since this thread is about crusty feet - feet ARE NOT CLEAN if they have dead skin decomposing on them.

backformoreofthesame · Today 16:48

Harvard medical school - exfoliation is purely about looks not hygiene

backformoreofthesame · Today 16:49

You remove as much as is needed when you wash / shower which you should do every 2 or 3 days

the rest is marketing bullshit

No link to back that ridiculous and frankly revolting assertion up?

YANBU

My feet are not the worst but I have a fungal toenail, I’d never inflict my trotters
on a colleague!

backformoreofthesame · Today 17:05

Do your own quick search Harvard exfoliation should bring it up

ediyted to add - from memory exfoliation had no health benefits but I wanted to double check and the science papers say no benefit and the sales pitches say differently….

Melarus · Today 17:11

Hate to break it to you hygiene fiends on here, but our bodies shed about 30,000 dead skin cells every MINUTE.

Exfoliation will temporarily speed up the process, but it's not like taking off a jacket, which then stays off - we're all shedding all day, every day, no matter how much we've scrubbed and soaped. Even our faces.

SombodyThatYouUsedToKnow · Today 17:19

How odd to scrutinise people’s feet in your workplace. Do you have some sort of fetish? I don’t think I have ever looked at my colleagues’ feet at work, I wouldn’t have a clue what condition they are in.

Anarchy99 · Today 17:26

Ceramiq · Today 16:34

Yup. I like soap that exfoliates ie Moroccan black soap. And oil for my nails because they tear if I don't put oil on them every day.

That’s fine if you want to spend your money on it but it’s hardly necessary. People on here talk like if you don’t have a regular pedicure, manicure etc and if you don’t use wanky soap, then your feet are filthy.

At least cut long yellow toenails! Or any over-long toenails, come to that.

What about missing toenails? Do you find those offensive? It’s a genuine question.

Also why the actual fuck are you all looking at other people in that much detail? It’s creepy.

If people want to be well presented then crack on but to judge others for their feet suggests that some people have nothing better to think about. Close your eyes if you are that delicate.

Nope. They’re beauty and skincare choices.

Hygiene is keeping things clean.

Ok well for me hygiene is getting dead skin off my feet. But if you enjoy your crust who am I to say.

Any “crust” comes off in the shower. Showering / washing your feet is enough to keep them clean.

Using words like ‘crust’ is to provoke a reaction, just like ‘trotters’. It’s immature and sneery.

I would sooner have dry heels than be shallow and judgemental about others’ choices that affect nobody else.

I've never liked my own (male) feet, and am jealous of guys who can look ok in flip flops.

Even so, I would hate to see them at work.

So do you all walk round with your eyes on the floor?

You don’t have to look in detail - I don’t purposely look at anyone’s feet. It’s more that sometimes you just can’t help seeing.

What about those of us who are overweight, or ugly, or don’t have perfectly manicured nails etc etc? Should we stay in so as not to offend you?

What is missing from your life that you would notice or in fact care?

If you can’t reach your own feet, get them done by someone else. Or keep them covered. I don’t expect perfect pedicures, and many people just have ugly feet, but letting them become yellowed, thickened and cracked is just manksville.

I don't get my feet done, or do anything to them other than keep them clean. Nor are they yellow or cracked. It's really not essential to beautify your feet. Nor is it offensive not to do do anymore than it's offensive not to wear make-up.

Your gaze must be firmly fixed to the ground if other males feet make you jealous and insecure.

Sounds like a fetish to me.

The thing is though men (in general) DGAF what you think about their feet.

...and this is exactly the point!
men are happily going around without sparing a thought for what other people think of their feet
imagine the brain space freed up
then imagine the spending power, energy, time and brain space freed up by NGAF what other people think about your whole appearance and what you could do with all that ! we could change the world, sisters 💪

Avert your gaze. They're not your feet to be concerned with.
