AIBU for avoiding a colleague whose way of talking just grates on me

Is it weird that I don’t want to be close to a colleague who speaks v-e-r-y v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y and in a monotone voice.

She is perfectly clever and kind.

And the way she speaks is in fact quite polished but it’s worse than watching paint dry ….. I’m always stopping myself from finishing her sentences because I can predict what she is going to say about 5 minutes before she says it….

she regularly asks for advice which I give.but then also wants to meet for a coffee or drink - and I just can’t bear it.

I get on with most people and never feel like this normally.

Am I a total b*tch?

we work in a corporate environment and she isn’t a high performer - I think because of the way she speaks

she has just messaged me now saying we should grab dinner one night… I would honestly rather wash my hair..

Why are you asking? If you don’t like her then just avoid her.

@CloudPop -She literally sits next to me at work… how can I avoid her

also your post defeats the purpose of AIBU - why should anyone ask anything

Just say that you make a point of not socialising with work colleagues as you prefer to keep work and your personal life entirely separate.

I would be sooooo irritated by this too

I think I’d be annoyed by the constant attempts at extending the colleague relationship to friendship in spite of your repeated nos. It is not unusual to make friends with colleagues but equally it is not uncommon not to. Her repeatedly asking you and not accepting your no would annoy me in your shoes.
