I don’t know what to make of this, dc is in primary school and every week someone gets a certificate.
Suddenly I saw my child’s teacher walk past the lounge window at about 8 pm and post a certificate through the door.
Aibu to find it a bit strange and wonder why she did this having had to look up our address and purposely drive to our house when all certificates are handed out in school and she would see my child in the morning?

Moveoverdarlin · 26/06/2026 15:12

Yeah I think that’s weird. Just wait till the morning. Think of all the water bottles, jumpers and hats left at school everyday. You don’t see teachers dropping any of them off

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 26/06/2026 15:13

How do you know she didn't also hand deliver twenty other certs, maybe because she's not in school today? Jeez. Who'd be a teacher?

Runningswanker · 26/06/2026 15:14

Surely it's as simple as your child missed out/would miss out getting a certificate for whatever reason, teacher already knows where the kid lives from the records they see at school all the time, she knew she'd been in that area so dropped it off on her way home/way back from the gym or whatever?

Do you object to the postman/delivery men coming to your house? What harm do you think someone walking up your drive does exactly?

SunnyRedSnail · 26/06/2026 14:44

Wow! How kind!

It's so lovely to see teacher's go the extra mile and do things like this so a child doesn't miss out.

Yes this
it has happened to my dd too when she got an award but was off sick. The head delivered it that time
The teenager was mortified but I thought it was a lovely thing to do!

BleedinglyObvious · 26/06/2026 15:14

Log it with 101 and get a Ring doorbell.

Blimms · 26/06/2026 15:14

OP has what my teenager would describe as ‘main character syndrome’

Allswellthatendswelll · 26/06/2026 15:14

We had a home visit from the reception teachers and I sometimes see other teachers walk their dogs past our house and say hi if I'm watering the front. She was probably just passing and thought it was a nice thing to do if assembly wasn't on or sge wasn't in.

howmanycorners · 26/06/2026 15:00

It’s very unusual, I have two other children that have been to that school and never had a teacher come to the house.

You think it’s invasive for somebody to approach your front door and post something in your letterbox?

How else would they pop something in your letterbox without approaching your front door??

No idea why they didn’t put it in the post to do it. Maybe you should ask them.

But it’s not like some major breach. The fact that you think your child has been singled out in someway maybe warrants a conversation with the School because there must be more of this than that single episode for you to come to that Conclusion

allwillbe · 26/06/2026 15:15

it is paranoid Ops like this which make me hesitant to do anything kind or spontaneous in case it is misconstrued as odd and suspicious. It is such a simple nice gesture which you have made into a grubby one

Sploon · 26/06/2026 15:15

Newfog · 26/06/2026 14:53

How did the teacher get your home address?

I'm so baffled by this question! They'd get access to it using their school's management system that they use every single day. Probably the same system they use to take the register, log behaviour incidents etc. I look up information about children on my system every single day, usually multiple times. Having access to this information allows us to do ours jobs, it's certainly not made unavailable to us.

Maybe she intended to attack you with a samurai sword but decided against it 😳🙄

Well, she lost the element of surprise when they saw her through the window, so she didn't have much choice but to give it up.

Christ on a bike, you have a lot of free time to worry about ridiculous things. Do you complain when a different posty or delivery driver delivers because now other people know where you live? She did something nice for your child, she has very little interest in you or where you live. Go worry about something worth worrying about!

BeaLola · 26/06/2026 15:18

My first thought - what a lovely kind thing they did (assume either your child left it at school or that due to heat no assembly this week to present it in and they wanted your child to k or they had earned the certificate)

my 2nd thought - what a lovely kind thought

my third thought - what a weird reaction from you

You can’t drive past because it’s a cul de sac but I’m not usually a paranoid person but I did wonder why she would come to our house like that. We have a big grassy area at the front so the door was open and we were in and out as I was watering the plants so it did feel a bit invasive that she was suddenly walking past our open window to the front door.
Nothing to hide but I did feel a bit uncomfortable and now I’m wondering if there was a reason she wanted to see where our child lives.
I only knew she was there when my child called out her name.

invasive?

KilkennyCats · 26/06/2026 15:19

Newfog · 26/06/2026 14:53

How did the teacher get your home address?

She’ll doubtless have employed a fleet of private detectives at vast personal expense, just so she could do a nice thing for one of the kids in her class.
Do you seriously imagine your child’s school doesn’t know where they live?

scalt · 26/06/2026 15:19

Are you Mr Wormwood, who was irritated by Miss Honey turning up at the family home to talk about Matilda, right in the middle of his favourite TV programme?

Only on Mumsnet.

Mind you, I remember being shocked when I was 16: during my GCSE study leave, my teacher suddenly rang me at home, to talk about coursework.

FunnyOrca · 26/06/2026 15:20

I am guessing there was staff chatter of school potentially being closed due to heat and she didn’t want your child to miss out on the certificate they had earned.

Your reaction is wildly over the top. Was your child pleased?

Joining the chorus of 'you're being paranoid' – for all you know, the teacher lives in the next street, forgot to give the certificate out during the day and thought she'd pop it in.

Or maybe your son has said something about his home life that was alarming and she was doing a swing-by to see for herself.

SilenceInside · 26/06/2026 15:21

Goodness you are paranoid. I would think that there was some practical reason why the certificate wouldn't have been able to be handed out at school as usual, and rather than your child not get it, the teacher delivered it herself. The school knows your child's address, this is a reasonable use of that data.

Do you genuinely think that the teacher is going to stalk you or harass you or similar??

TheBlueKoala · 26/06/2026 15:22

howmanycorners · 26/06/2026 14:58

So why come over?

Maybe she was checking out if you were home/the size of your house preparing a burglary. Teachers salaries are not excellent and the holidays are coming up so might need some extra cash for a trip🤷‍♀️

Sahara123 · 26/06/2026 15:22

For the love of god who’d be a teacher ..

McGregor33 · 26/06/2026 15:23

My girls teacher hand delivered end of term gifts to the kids during lockdown as rules had relaxed a bit. I thought it was really sweet and didn’t think it was strange at all. My girl loved seeing her and it really brightened her mood.

Do you have something to hide OP? Embarrassed about your garden or house for instance? Did you have your rollers in? Just trying to understand your reaction.
You'll look a bit odd if you raise it with school.
