I don’t know what to make of this, dc is in primary school and every week someone gets a certificate.
Suddenly I saw my child’s teacher walk past the lounge window at about 8 pm and post a certificate through the door.
Aibu to find it a bit strange and wonder why she did this having had to look up our address and purposely drive to our house when all certificates are handed out in school and she would see my child in the morning?

I think you need to get over yourself. It was a kind gesture. 🤷‍♀️

It’s very unusual, I have two other children that have been to that school and never had a teacher come to the house.

It's not that difficult to look up addresses. On most systems they're at the top of the page with all the attendance, medical info etc etc.

If there was a SS concern it certainly wouldn't be the class teacher investigating.

Are you thinking she's snooping or being snobby?

landlordhell · 26/06/2026 15:02

The teachers know where you live anyway! Get a grip!

WorkHardPlay · 26/06/2026 15:02

To me, the most obvious answer is that your child probably was given it in class … and they forgot to take it home, so she’s brought it round.

Is that not a possibility? Have you asked your child?

WilliamsandWatsonTooLateNSoul · 26/06/2026 15:03

FFS how could you be arsed with the permutations and possibilities!

sittingonabeach · 26/06/2026 15:03

Teachers will have access to contact details. Not all staff will, so meal time assistant, caretaker and similar won’t

If you are doing school drop off tomorrow you could ask.

DappledThings · 26/06/2026 15:04

I think we have a new dictionary definition of both over-thinking and paranoid.

CrustyBread1977 · 26/06/2026 15:05

Fuck’s sake. This is why I retired. 🙄

KilkennyCats · 26/06/2026 15:05

howmanycorners · 26/06/2026 14:56

Well no but I think coming to our home oversteps a boundary.
I wouldn’t dream of obtaining her address and taking my child's homework round.

Boundaries…. Jesus Christ 🙄
Why don’t you just dig a moat round your house, if someone passing your window literally felt invasive?

BreakingBroken · 26/06/2026 15:07

I love living remotely and knowing/shopping.and living near all the school teachers.
Your questioning this action is weird.

Complain. How dare she invade your space. Your kid should get his/her certificate during school hours when they're actually there.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Blimms · 26/06/2026 15:07

howmanycorners · 26/06/2026 14:58

So why come over?

Because we care about the child. Unless there is some type of abuse going on at home, we don’t care about the wider family, where you live etc. You’re attempting to place yourself in a far more important position than you actually are.

Katykaty11 · 26/06/2026 15:08

Jeez. I'm a teacher and it's something I (and many others) would do. Nothing sinister.

hugasaurus · 26/06/2026 15:08

This is such a weird reaction. Maybe she thought with the heatwave etc there was a chance he wouldn’t be there so wanted to make sure he had it?

Whorulestheroost1 · 26/06/2026 15:08

It must be the weather because I can't believe how many threads I have read today with people taking the time to post about the most mundane shit like it is a huge deal.

bettyboo9 · 26/06/2026 15:09

She could have gone home, had a stiff drink and watched Netflix. Instead she went out of her way to make sure your child got their certificate and you are complaining! Seriously! She needs applauding and obviously cares about the kids . Question… what would you have done in her position. All teachers already have full access to children’s medical and home addresses.
maybe the heat is just getting to you? 🤷‍♀️

So what do you think the motive was then OP???

MeganM3 · 26/06/2026 15:09

She must have had a reason. Maybe she thought DC really deserved it and may not be in school with the heat. Who knows. If she was concerned about something she’d have spoken to you or made a safeguarding referral.
You’re probably just on her way home.

chirrupybird · 26/06/2026 15:09

Lots of people come to your door, deliveries, postmen, etc, why would this one from someone you know feel like some sort of invasion of privacy? She just put it through the letter box and left. She may pass the end of your cul-de-sac every day. Perhaps she couldn't present the certificate or forgot to give it out and didn't want your DC to be disappointed at not getting it on time, didn't want to forget next week. A non event really.

Mumstheword1983 · 26/06/2026 15:10

I've had a class teachers put thank you cards through my door in the summer holidays for end of term gifts. Never really thought about it? Was grateful.

I am a teacher myself though and it's a village school so she did already know where we live.

Newrumpus · 26/06/2026 15:10

Your child is very lucky to have such a dedicated teacher. I hope you send an email of thanks.

It would be inappropriate for you to try to get hold of the teacher’s address. It is essential that the teacher knows the child’s address.

hugasaurus · 26/06/2026 15:10

And she literally put something through the door. You have random people putting leaflets through, delivery people, charity fundraisers, all that stuff without a care but a teacher putting something through the door for your kid is a crossed boundary?

Cardomomle · 26/06/2026 15:11

She's casing the joint, OP. You know what primary school teachers are like.

During the times of Covid, the TAs at our school wrote postcards to each child and hand delivered them. Lots of the teachers and TAs live locally. I absolutely could post things through their doors if I wanted to.

You're over thinking a nice gesture.
