Are your children going to school today?

It’s going to be 32 degrees where we are today, for the fourth day running.

If you’re in a heatwave area are your dc going to school? Is it closed? Our school are encouraging children to go in but giving the option to finish early.

Yabu - children are staying home
Yqnbu - children are going to school

Mine are going. If they close Ds3 has asked if he can bring some of his friends back, otherwise they will stuck outside, getting sunstroke and starving ( his words!

Mingou · 25/06/2026 08:13

My older ones finished school a month ago, and the younger ones over a week ago 🤷

Iocanepowder · 25/06/2026 08:15

South East, 35 degrees, school closing after lunch.

Denim4ever · 25/06/2026 08:17

Are GCSE exams finished? I think the latest DS had one in his exam year was 24th

SlazengerTennisClub · 25/06/2026 08:17

Older kids school is closing at 1pm. Younger kids open all day.
I agree with keeping them open tbh. Imagine if the weather was like this from now until the end of term? The country cant grind to a halt.
Hoping it gives schools an idea of what they need ready for next summer. Outdoor shade would be great for our school so they dont have to stay indoors all day.

Going in as normal and in mufti all week. DS came home yesterday saying he’d had the best day at school ever! The teachers are pulling out all the stops to make it enjoyable for them which I really appreciate. If he was home he’d be alone in a boiling living room on a screen as I need to work.

AWomanOfWealthAndTaste · 25/06/2026 08:19

Nah, fuck that. About 33-34 here today depending who you listen to, and they'll learn nothing. They were ok on Monday and Tuesday, yesterday was too much, so we're having a 4 day weekend.

Theforbiddenforest · 25/06/2026 08:19

A mixture here!
SE red warning area.

DD1 secondary are finishing early at 1:25 so has gone in.

DD2 primary is expected in all day, she was a mess when I picked her up yesterday so I’m keeping her off today.

bookworm14 · 25/06/2026 08:21

Mine is going in as all the classrooms have air con (aware we are very lucky). She is better off at school as it’s absolutely roasting at home. Loads of people are still keeping their kids off though, which I find odd given the air con situation.

Moonnstarz · 25/06/2026 08:22

Our school is optional today, but as I work there staff have been told we must be in, so my kids therefore are in.

Mamadothehump · 25/06/2026 08:24

Going. Yr 10 mock exams. East Anglia - HOT!!

SleepingStandingUp · 25/06/2026 08:25

Unexpectedly we got a text at 8.30ast night. Thankfully I don't need to source childcare! Closed rest of week

Yodellayhehoo · 25/06/2026 08:26

We have an air con unit and 3 fans. It has to be done.. our apartment is 3 floors up and the heat last night was tremendous. I was adamant the heating was on it was that bad.

ThisAutumnTown · 25/06/2026 08:31

It’s hitting 35 today and the school is closing at 12:45 so I decided to keep them home.
We have all the blinds closed and at 2 I’m taking them to the cinema as it’s air conditioned.

Hallywally · 25/06/2026 08:31

Yes but I decided against her also going to after school club- felt it was too long a day in the heat. Luckily I have some flexibility and can WFH sometimes instead of go in.

Schools can have all the ideas they want. They don't have the money to implement these ideas.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 25/06/2026 08:38

I'm in Bristol, large academy chain that runs most secondary schools round here has closed schools yesterday and today. DD has just finished GCSEs so wouldn't have been in anyway.

Tweedledeedledum · 25/06/2026 08:38

My grandchildren are all home until Monday and sports days rearranged to the last day of term. Ages from 4 to 13 years.

Helpwithdivorce · 25/06/2026 08:39

Mine have gone in. The house is hotter than the sun so I can’t imagine school is any worse

user9764325677 · 25/06/2026 08:44

Can’t go, school is shut. But it was 35 at 7pm here yesterday, so tbh fair enough!

Thatcannotberight · 25/06/2026 08:46

It was 33°C yesterday and predicted to be the same today, it's already 28°C. School is closing at 12.30.

ArabellaScott · 25/06/2026 08:47

Not going. Kids fainted yesterday. If they can't take simple steps like allow them to not wear a shirt and tie to keep body heat at a safe level, they aren't looking after them properly.

RumPidgeon · 25/06/2026 08:48

Yes, going in. They have air conditioning in school. I‘m going to work. 🤷‍♀️

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 25/06/2026 08:49

Going. I have to go to work and her school isn't closing.
