To think Andy Burnham is smug and presumptuous. Just that really and I have no particular political preference, disillusioned with the lot!

Shall we let the man have five minutes in office before we start tearing him to shreds?

GilesTurnbull · 22/06/2026 12:30

He does look impermeable and not very bright. I’m holding out zero hope.

newmenewwhatever · 22/06/2026 12:30

He was our mayor and wasted a phenomenal amount of money on a clean air zone that never happened.
and then decided he didn’t want that job anymore, when something more powerful came along.., he is all about himself and his power.
i would never vote for him to be PM

This. For crying out loud 😁
Has he even been made PM yet?!

This has started early. It's hot. Have a day off.

MrsTomRipley · 22/06/2026 12:34

CAZ cost £100 million, which he scrapped in case it lost him votes. It was the Labour MP's who were attacking Starmer before he was even elected.

Why should he be? He’d be an unelected one and on what manifesto?

Screamingabdabz · 22/06/2026 12:35

He’s a jump on any bandwagon type. Thinks it’s cool to say men are women even though this causes harm to girls and women. He doesn’t care. He just wants to be the cool guy saying the latest thing that he thinks will make him popular with the in crowd.

So yes, smug. And lacking any moral compass or vision. And he’ll be the next PM. Depressing.

He went from state school to Cambridge so presumably reasonably bright.

I don’t think anyone wants him for pm. Ticking has started till he’s out.

Youd think so, wouldn't you. Except I live in an area surrounded by people that went to Cambridge and Oxford… so, yeah… it means less than nothing. Experience has made this clear to me.

Were you on here saying the same when the Tories parachuted useless leader after useless leader into No.10? Or is your ire reserved for Labour?

Onceuponatimethen · 22/06/2026 12:42

Yabu I love Andy Burnham

Cloudconfusion · 22/06/2026 12:55

Yes I think he’s delighted which sadly says him and his cronies have missed the point hugely, which is Starmer going shows jist how much of a failure Labour have been over the last two years and how virtually impossible this will now be for them to fix unless they reverse many of their policies.

it’s utter delusion. He should not be delighted, he should be reflecting on just how much damage Labour have inflicted on the public and how much damage in turn this has done to Labour itself.

we will have a brief respite of celebrations and promises of change, and then it will deteriorate even further even faster.

it’s just a really tragic situation for the British public and th3 question is how much more damage can Labour inflict before we get them the fuck out of office and kill that party for good due to it,

Exactly - never ending stream of PMs every 5 minutes when the Conservative were in charge and not a big public cry fest for a General Election like there is now
Starmer should have stayed and not played right into the media's hands imo.

AClassicTrenchcoat · 22/06/2026 12:57

He does have a somewhat smug air. It’s always white men that Labour have as their leader. Odd for a party you would imagine would all be for some kind of equality of opportunity.

How many unelected PMs did we have under the tories and no one seemed to have a problem with it

ExtraOnions · 22/06/2026 13:03

I’ve voted for Andy to be Greater Manchester Mayor, I like the way he has fought the region, and his leadership in times of crisis has been excellent.

His ideas around the MBacc, and the changes to Education to bring more vocational pathways in high school, and creating opportunities around “In demand professions” should be replicated throughout the country.

yes! We need more stability not more egos and in fighting
in fact, both parties would do well with more collaboration

Good job you don't have to vote for him to be PM then really isn't it. Unless you live in Makerfield you will not have the opportunity to vote for him.

JoyousOpalLemur · 22/06/2026 13:07

He does seem like someone who thinks it's his god given right to be PM.

He looks like the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz.

He’s been in public life for a long time. Plenty of time to assess him. He doesn’t get to wipe the slate clean.

It would it be great if they could find a poc and put them in as leader, even if there’s no-one suitable. Just having a darker skin colour person in charge would placate a lot of people, regardless of their ability.

Are you insane? You don’t care how able they are, as long as they’re not white? In a country with a white majority. Why?

Rishi Sunak wasn’t white, but people still hated him.

…I love the reasoned political debate we have in this country, the way it’s about policies and integrity, rather than how someone looks…
