To pull my son out of food tech.
My son isn't a bad cook at home, but at school most of the dishes are costing between £5-8 to make and are inedible. We have also lost 3 containers because of kids just grabbing whichever one looks best rather than their own!
AIBU to refuse to send stuff in from now on? He is only in year 8 so we have at least another year of this shit.

Why do so many people think the lessons are 1 hour? It depends on the school and how they timetable things.

On the subject of knife skills and reheating food at home, some children (and I know it is a small number) live in places like a B and B with no cooking facilities. There are also cultural differences in the skills a child may also have. No school is going to let you put a home made flat bread directly on a lit gas hob. Or let you peel potatoes with a broken bread knife you sharpen on the door step.

Doing supply teaching I have only ever assisted in any food tech lessons. The not being able to tie an apron could easily be because the child who previously used it tied a couple of tight knots and then took it off over their head.

I'm finding this thread so interesting, it making me think a lot about the subject.
