Funeral next week

I have a funeral of a close relative to attend next week and the temperature is scheduled to be 29 degrees. I have a long maxi dress to wear, is it acceptable to wear flat open toed sandals?

Yes i think sandals will be fine, nobody will be looking at your feet and just care that you are there.

CoverLikelyZebra · 18/06/2026 11:00

Yes that's fine. No one will care about your feet.

Pootles34 · 18/06/2026 11:01

Yes absolutely fine. I think folk are a lot more casual at funerals now - as with everything!

sorry for your loss

Absolutely fine

Personally, I'd wear flats/pumps and never opened toes/sandals to a funeral. I grew up abroad in a very hot country and even there I never saw sandals worn, nor in the 25yrs I've lived in the UK. Others seem to think its ok so maybe its just me.

Not just you. I would wear closed shoes out of respect for the formality of a funeral and the family of the deceased.

I would say it's fine. It wouldn't even occur to me that it was unusual at a funeral. I would want people to be comfortable in the heat.

Absolutely fine. I went to a funeral last year when it was 30°, lots of people had sandals on, including the widow. No-one will mind.

Sandals are absolutely fine.

Maybe some ballet pumps, even the weaved/crochet style ones would be more acceptable than sandals but also offer some air to your toes.

That being said, the most recent funeral I went to I saw someone there in tracksuit bottoms and a shirt and tie! So if you really do have to wear the sandals it isn’t the end of the world.

It very much depends on the tone of the funeral and how formal it will be and whether shoes etc would be something that would matter.
If you think the principal family would mind then do not wear sandals.
