To think that this is odd, at best ..

A woman walking alongside her husband as he plays a sport with his friends ? Her idea . No interaction , just walking beside or behind them? For a few hours ?

To not write the subject in your title? Yes!

There is even AI if you can't manage it.

Golf yes and wife’s idea . I’m a woman( not her obviously) and I’d lose my shit if my husband even suggested that. So AIBU to think this is all kinds of weird?

The only reason I can think of for you to be so annoyed about this is that you play golf with this woman's husband and you don't want his wife around... for reasons best known to yourself.

Otherwise, what's it got to do with you and why would it matter?

Personally, I find golf astonishingly boring, so no, I wouldn't accompany someone who was playing a round of golf.

But I certainly would watch a partner play football, or a competitive tennis match, and this really isn't any different from that, surely?

Also, golf courses are often in nice locations with nice views, and clubs often have a social side with a clubhouse and a nice bar etc, so maybe she just wants what amounts to a pleasant stroll while she watches a sport she's interested in, and then a G&T afterwards with her husband and/or friends. Wouldn't be my thing, but I don't think it's difficult to imagine that plenty of people would find that a nice enough way to spend an afternoon.

Report your opening post to MN (use the three little dots to open a drop down menu that includes "report") and ask them to change the title for you.

Honestly its not something I would do. I have better things to do with my time but a man I know has his wife AND mother follow him around the course...they enjoy the walk 🤷‍♀️

ErrolTheDragon · 16/06/2026 16:00

It’s not something I’d want to do, but if she likes a stroll in a pleasant environment, and maybe doesn’t like doing so completely alone then it’s a reasonable thing to do.

I'd imagine it's not the husband that suggested it. It's the wife, trying desperately to spend a bit more time with a husband.

I did this for a bit in my teens. One by one my mates started taking up golf. I tried it a few times, thought it was shit (or more accurately, I was shit at it), so just wandered round the golf course with them chatting as they played.

In retrospect, it was a bit sad, but so was sitting around at home by myself. In the end, I found some other people to hang out with.

porcini · 17/06/2026 04:09

I’m not a golfer but I found it strange that her husband was with his three friends and she essentially followed him around the course for the 18 holes. I couldn’t think of anything worse as my time with friends is rare and precious as is his normally .
maybe it’s a ‘ thing’ ??
