In 2026 when I see a thread title about fascists, I assume one means the far left. I’ve no particular interest in insta or facebook as they’re mostly far left drivel when it comes to politics.

No love, the far left are Communists. Fascists are the far right.

CornishDaughteroftheDawn · 14/06/2026 14:20

Skinnysaluki · 14/06/2026 13:48

I don’t think hilarious is the word.
I also don’t think ‘concerned about immigration’ accounts for the vocal racism, street violence and burning people out of their houses. That’s fascism.

No, @Datgal has included us all in the definition of fascist now - even the Home Secretary and Iranian refugees trying to escape the IRGC. Do keep up.

You say that as if it's something to be proud of being a commie in the 21st century 😆

You mean take a sledgehammer to the backs of police women there instead?

Or wasn’t that the violent protest you had in mind?

Edited

Yes. Zack Polanski - a very popular man in Brighton was hugely supportive of that sort of violent protest.

The trans activist protests, also big in Brighton, get pretty violent against women as well. It’s almost like they think it is fine to be violent if they agree with the political views perpetrators.

OakAndIron · 14/06/2026 14:25

Skinnysaluki · 14/06/2026 13:57

She WAS a bigot and the most disastrous thing Gordon Brown ever did was apologise to her for calling her one.

Now there are bigots everywhere emboldened in their bigotry to the point of setting people’s homes on fire.

No platform for racists and fascists, never give an inch. Every time a Labour politician said ‘these are legitimate concerns’ they normalised attitudes that used to be the preserve of the national front and the BNP when I was young and these groups were considered to be completely beyond the norm.

Well done Brighton.

And there are plenty of people who hold the same views as me who absolutely would never, ever do what those rioters did in Belfast.

You just lump everyone who objects to unlimited asylum seekers into the same category as those rioters which is why we currently have a big problem in this country.

PinkandPerky · 14/06/2026 13:53

This comment makes no sense whatsoever.

Many heroes of the left, like Zack Polanski for example are extremely supportive of violent protest where women get injured if they agree with the politics of the violent protestors.

I think pp was pointing out the hypocrisy.

Even on this thread you can see similar. Women are to blame. Why on earth would we be

Oh sorry - I forgot you were part of the 'tar everyone with the same brush' brigade.

You really don't recognise nuance do you?

Is that a similar brush that is being used to tar everyone with concerns about immigration as ‘far right fascists’?

These men that are protesting to protect women and girls-why is is suddenly an issue they care about?

Why have they not ever been out protesting about the fact that hundreds of women and children have died at the hands of their husband/partners/fathers/stepfathers over the decades?

There is exactly one circumstance in which fascists care about the wellbeing of women: when an immigrant has attacked one. The rest of the time they themselves are the attackers.

CrochetHooked · 14/06/2026 14:36

In principle, I am for welcoming refugees, but not if there is no public or institutional will for preventing antisocial behaviour.

How common is Zelda's attitude? Are groups of men being left to harass and assault women because they are asylum seekers?

I don't support violent protest of any kind so there is no hypocrisy from me. Therefore, the comment still makes no sense in response to my post.

We don't have mass immigration. As the figures presented up thread have shown, it's down on previous years by a huge margin. We currently have too little to staff hospitals and to pay the whopping great fees that overseas students put into the university system to keep it alive.
And as I've said upthread as well, I am in a refugee welcoming area and we have actually welcomed them, rather than seeing them as the enemy.

We do have mass immigration. The fact that the net migration is now slightly lower on previous years still means that lots more people are entering the country per year than leaving and the cumulative total is many millions.

We currently have too little to staff hospitals and to pay the whopping great fees that overseas students put into the university system to keep it alive.

Evidence please - we regularly hear reports that British medical students are struggling to find work or placements. We have 5% unemployed - we are not short of workers.

Student visa abuse is likely to be costing the country more than the income gained by scalping overseas students for outrageous fees for substandard degree courses.

Then there are the destructive political issues in universities that are so bad that some countries like UAE won’t allow their students to come here for fear of radicalisation.

I am in a refugee welcoming area and we have actually welcomed them, rather than seeing them as the enemy.

Making such ill informed blanket statements about refugees is part of the problem. Some if these men are extremely violent criminals. Some are known terrorists, some are non EU citizens on the run from justice for crimes committed in other EU countries. Some are Iranian terrorists trying to get at other Iranian refugees to attack them.

We need to have proper conversations without being called racist or fascist, not just these facile dismissals for virtue signalling purposes.

I suspect because it in the main effects poorer areas it doesnt matter because the one group leftys really hate is the white working classes.

Canary Wharf has a hotel. There’s no way the area is not subject to the capitalism you cite.

Are you in Brighton but don’t want the hotels there?

Yes, Canary Wharf is in London (I’m based in Greater London), who take 15% of all asylum seekers in the UK. Feels like we are treading old ground here, London makes up 0.65% of the UK geographically speaking and demonstrably does more than its fair share of everything. We also collect the most tax, that we redistribute to vastly poorer UK areas. Where are you based in and we can drill into the data? Sounds like you are somewhere that is economically challenged.

Does it? Sounds like you are not very good at drawing conclusions. I’m in London.

I’m all for Brighton and others on thread picking up the extra asylum accommodation as they are very keen. I don’t see the issue, everyone wins.

Well done Brighton.

She asked a question about immigration. She was entitled to ask that. His reaction should have been to answer in a respectful way. He lost the election because many people wanted an answer to that and thought he had been disrespectful when the question was reasonable. Just as many questions posed to politicians are.
Blair and Brown thought that small numbers of people would arrive in the UK from the A8 countries. They could have placed limits on what A8 immigrants were eligible to have from the state, for example, no access to social housing for a period, but chose not to do so. They came up with the ridiculous workers registration scheme which was used to prove eligibility for social housing. It was a stupid hare brained scheme cobbled together in haste after the event. Brown admitted he didn't think over 1,000,000 would arrive in the UK from the A8 countries. It was a dog's breakfast of stupidity. I had to deal with people applying for social housing and the whole thing was a headache. How was I supposed to find out if a person owned a property in Poland for example? The answer was that I couldn't. It's not bigoted to worry about the effect of huge numbers of people arriving in a country. Particularly when the government is useless.

Well then you know that London is perfectly capable of placing the numbers we already have. Brighton should definitely take more, but I can also see why economically it makes sense to place Asylum Seekers in more affordable areas, I’ve never found Canary Wharf to be particularly cheap, have you?

Will you take a large share of the convicted rioters in return?

Or welcome more of those anti immigration marches in your neighbourhood?

I must say, the standard of ‘argument’ on the ‘pro unlimited immigration’ side is low even by their normal standards.

They’ve just resorted to name calling - fascist, knuckle draggers, bigots etc - the only popular one missing is ‘flag shaggers’

I guess is an acknowledgment they have no arguments.

No it’s not cheap, that’s what I’m saying. CW does accommodate even with the cost, so it’s not an excuse for Brighton.

And no I don’t think people in more run down areas should do it, it makes sense to use the social welcome from Brighton. There would also be no backlash when something happens. It’s a win all round.
