Would you do this

Will be traveling (6hour flight) with DH and two kids ( 7 and 9 years old). I will be 30 weeks pregnant, and DH says I should fly business class while the 3 of them should fly economy. I’m uneasy about it - feels selfish. We cannot afford for the 4 of us to all fly business. Would you do it? Or would you feel too much shame saying bye yo your family and they scoot down the plane aisle Blush

They’re 7 and 9, they’ll be a doddle to fly with as long as their tech is charged. Enjoy business class, it’s nice that your husband has suggested it, it shows he is kind.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 13/06/2026 00:34

I didn’t realise you could fly that far at 30 weeks pregnant. If you want to do it then go for it, it won’t be comfortable flying at that stage so why not make it a little easier on yourself?

MotherJessAndKittens · 13/06/2026 00:35

Could you all fly premium economy? It’s roomier and a bit cheaper. Where are you going?

You know what maybe I should check before I book economy or not !!

Yes, I’d do this without hesitation

AnonymityAnonymity · 13/06/2026 00:37

How refreshing to hear about a DH who actually cares about the comfort of his pregnant DW. So different from a lot of the sad tales on MN.
Go for it OP.

DameOfThrones · 13/06/2026 00:37

It would completely depend on why, I guess.

Is there a particular reason other than pregnancy?

I mean are you having a rough time or something?

YourShyLion · 13/06/2026 00:38

No need to fly business class, you're only pregnant! There's no way I could leave my kids to have a jolly while they're missing out, that's just selfish.

Well my kids will not care. They will be delighted by their snacks and TV, and will not want to instead have a lie-back seat that reclines for them to have a nap. It’s more my poor DH I’m thinking about.

Do it, he's prioritising you. That's no bad thing

Shame that the person in business can't make the most of the free wine though

MoleskineNotebooks · 13/06/2026 00:42

I’d do it without thinking twice, if I were able to fly that route on that airline at 30 weeks.

Why’s he ‘poor’? He suggested it didn’t he? Unless he’s pregnant too I think he’s fine!

5foot5 · 13/06/2026 00:43

Your DH sounds like a thoroughly decent chap. Do it if you can afford it.

Bibonelove · 13/06/2026 00:44

I'd be jumping at the chance, you shouldn't feel guilty at all , what a lovely thought from your Husband

If she's 30 weeks I don't suppose a couple of glasses is anything to worry about.

Drinking alcohol while flying at 30 weeks pregnant would be stupid

Why?

In moderation obviously. I don't think there is anything to suggest a relatively small amount taken at a late stage is harmful. Unless there is something about flying that is supposed to make this worse somehow.

A couple of glasses isn’t a small amount. And yes the affects of alcohol while flying can be different, and it’s obviously untested in pregnancy.

dnadiscoveryquery · 13/06/2026 01:09

Make sure you have sufficient travel insurance that would cover you, and baby, if you go into early labour. Costs could be huge otherwise.

Oh don't be so horrible.

the kids aren't 'missing out' business class makes fuck all difference to kids.

@tooyoungtoopretty your DH sounds considerate. 7&9 are easy to fly with & he obviously is happy to do so, as he suggested it. Do it, but before you book anything check with the airline.

This is similar to the poster who is saying ‘You’re only pregnant’. Being 30 weeks pregnant is not ‘only’ anything, and surely pregnant women don’t have to be having a rough time to justify treating themselves a bit more kindly and gently for that short period of time.
Pregnancy is absolutely exhausting and I don’t think anything is served by the OP powering on as though she weren’t growing another human being from scratch using her own body.

OP - your DH sounds thoroughly decent. Cut yourself some freaking slack. Take the business class seat and enjoy it for the whole 6 hours. You are creating a baby, and it is hard, and there have to be perks every now and again. Also, having the extra legroom has got to be a bit safer too. Wishing you a lovely flight.

PS. Remember your compression socks! 🧦

Zanatdy · 13/06/2026 01:14

Why not! My ex and I went to florida with the kids 10yrs ago, and he booked separately as was flying in from another country. On way home they upgraded him, but he told them to change it to my name. I had a great time!

Yerdug · 13/06/2026 01:15

Yes! Of course. Go! Youre growing a human and should enjoy the peace and rest. Please do it!

AvidMauveCrab · 13/06/2026 01:15

I’d do it but also consider premium economy?

biggest thing though is to check if you can fly with the airline. You may need a letter from your midwife or consultant, just check the rules before booking.

thedogmademessagain · 13/06/2026 01:20

It's a kind suggestion but no, I wouldn't. If there was any kind of emergency I know I'd want to be seated with my children, as unlikely as that is. Sitting together is also part of the whole family travel experience. I think looking at all going premium economy together is a good idea.

I've flown pregnant with preschoolers in tow. It's not so bad because you're sitting the whole time.
