Following on from my whats over rated thread, what's under rated?

And it's obviously got to be something the majority of people will know - not a great little Italian in your village.

I'll start.

  1. Wing Stops (Don't usually like buffalo wings outside of The US - but these are great)

  2. McDonald's black coffee (Great quality coffee at a great price)

  3. Krispy Kreme donuts (Pure sugar, but taste great.)

Greggs Coffee.

I like the coffee on Ryanair. I think it is ground coffee and there is a filter in the lid to drink it through.

Woahtherehoney · 12/06/2026 18:54

Tesco own brand chocolate digestives
lemonade ice lollies (the cheaper the better!)
Southend pier

and honestly agree about McDonald’s porridge and Greggs coffee!

PistachioTiramisu · 12/06/2026 19:07

Potatoes! I love them in any shape or form.

fionarcat · 12/06/2026 19:57

Carnation Caramel in a tin - lush! M&S pre-made porridge. Wenzel’s vegan sausage rolls and dried mango. Cleaning silver with tin foil and bicarbonate of soda.

GoodbyeZebedee · 12/06/2026 20:00

Nivea in a blue tub

Rhaenys · 13/06/2026 05:19

Subway hash browns. They’re head and shoulders about McDonald’s.

Detergent sheets - clean just as well, take up fair less space in the cupboard and use much less plastic - also smell amazing!

I love these! I use a plant-based sustainable laundry detergent for my clothes, but use detergent sheets for everything else, such as bedding and towels.

I only mentioned these to DH yesterday. Which ones do you use?
I tend to use Tesco non-bio powder for whites and capsules for colours, but want to go more eco-friendly.

I use the ones from Must Have Ideas. They're lovely and come in three different fragrances.

Dorothyperky · 13/06/2026 06:20

Aldi shortbread fingers. Better than Fortnum and Mason. (The Lidl copy are oily).

Aldi cleansing balm and men's face scrub.

I agree with blue Nivea and I work in posh beauty. I used to give my mum £100 creams and the blighter would still use Nivea.

Great thread, OP, and some useful tips!

I like plain, original Olay moisturiser. It's light, easily absorbed, a nice pale pink colour with a very light scent and it's very cheap. I've always used it and I hope I always will.

Neros for coffee - a cut above the other chains.

When you think that they only came over in the late 1500s...what on earth did we do until then??? I just cannot imagine pre-potato life in Europe. I think there was a lot of pease pudding unless you were wealthy.

And tomatoes too. What did the Italians do before tomatoes???

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 13/06/2026 07:20

Raspberry liquorice from Holland and Barrett. It's delicious!

FKAT · 13/06/2026 07:22

Morrison's cafe. Cheap, delicious and filling lunches.
I also like McDs coffee.

Wetherspoons.

It was pouring with rain yesterday and I had some time to kill between appointments, I needed somewhere warm and dry to wait, and get something to eat.

I had a jacket potato with tuna. Served with lots of fresh salad and unlimited coffee to drink, all for under £5. I honestly couldn't fault it. The couple on the next table both commented how nice it looked.

Edited

I agree about Wetherspoons food. Have had a seriously good steak in there. All very reasonably priced.

I just can’t get past the decor.

Rivita and bin bags

TulipsAndPancakes · 13/06/2026 07:28

Love a Spoons jacket potato

Daffodils... a £ a bunch. Would rather have those then big fancy bouquets of £££ flowers

Tutorpuzzle · 13/06/2026 07:33

East Devon.
South Devon is a bit ‘kiss me quick’ and Dorset is heaving most of the year, but East Devon is just this quiet little jewel in between.
It also has the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary.

But I do like their Burleigh crockery. It's a traditional design from the 30s, made in Stoke on Trent and it used to be quite expensive.

I visited the Dorchester (Dorset) Spoons a few weeks ago and was surprised they had it.

CoffeeCantata · 13/06/2026 07:49

A friend of mine who was really into food used to go to a very boring local town (the sort that appears on Shit Towns videos on YouTube) to shop, then regularly eat in the covered market, where a stall did excellent, fresh rolls and coffee.

A snooty person mocked her for this, but she was adamant the quality was excellent and it was incredibly cheap.

If you judge places superficially you'll miss out on some good things and, conversely, get ripped off at flashy places by the marketing folk!

JacknDiane · 13/06/2026 07:50

Tesco meal deal, 3.85 with a clubcard.
I get a southern fried chicken wrap, a really nice yogurt in a pouch and a costa flat white.

Ribenaberry12 · 13/06/2026 07:50

Agree with Nivea. I try bougie stuff and always end up going back.
The big beef tomatoes Lidl sell loose on the vine.
The Suffolk coast.

Bleachedjeans · 13/06/2026 07:52

Tinned sardines and mackerel. Cheap as chips and good for you.
Aldi and Lidl just as good as premium brands. Served on hot toast with a little chopped onion/tomato and black pepper. Really cheap nutritious lunch.

I prefer the Caesar salad one. 😋

Bleachedjeans · 13/06/2026 07:58

Another one. Carrots. Dirt cheap. Morrisons ‘wonky’ carrots even cheaper. Versatile. Boiled, mashed, roasted. Finely chopped added to bolognese and chilli. Grated raw to add colour to salads. Carrot cake. Jazzed up Vichy carrots. Good for you.

Dr Beckmans Carpet Stain Remover with the brush lid. It works on everything.
