Man in a car parked outside my house all afternoon

PyongyangKipperbang · Yesterday 17:13

Since at least 2 pm. Terraces with on street parked so directly outside the house. He is has just been sat there all the time, engine on for half an hour then off again, presumably to stop the battery draining if he is using something electrical.

There are plenty of car parks in the area so no reason to be here. He saw my come back and go in the house so presumably its nothing to do with me, but its freaking me out a bit (and pissed me off as I had to park on another road!).

We are not on a road with shops or a school or doctors etc so no reason to be waiting there for someone for such a long time!

Worth taking the reg in case he comes back tomorrow do we think?

Is there no street Whatsapp ?

Ours would have been ablaze by now ...

We get people parking on our drive sometimes while waiting for the AA if they've broken down. They always knock on the door and ask first though.

Maybe it's the dwp/hmrc checking one of your neighbours doesn't have a secret boyfriend living with them or that they aren't faking their disability.

MyDeftDuck · Yesterday 18:18

This might sound a bit ‘extreme’ but he could be on surveillance……either for criminal investigations or for the DWP observing the activities of a benefit claimant.
Either way, idling the engine is an offence as well as being a bloody nuisance!

AnonyMumAuDHD · Yesterday 18:19

Reckon he’s a private investigator hired by a neighbour to see if spouse is cheating…still shady, tho, and yes I’d call the police. Criminals often ‘case’ a street before break ins. A dozen or so in our road all seem to have been preceded by odd people wandering back n forth or parking for long periods.

AlternateLook · Yesterday 18:20

Assuming the car's MOT'd, taxed, and insured, other than idling the engine periodically, what crimes is this poor man supposed to have committed?

2dogsandabudgie · Yesterday 18:20

Could be undercover police, PI, undercover for DWP, waiting for someone to come out of an appointment, or any other numerous reasons.

Unless you ask him you won't know

I may or may not have spent a few hours parked up somewhere before to see how long a friends husband was visiting a ‘friend’ for when he was supposedly at work.

maybe he’s doing that?

I had a friend do the same, checking up on (now) ex DH.

Violinorbanjo · Yesterday 18:22

Pretend he is invisible and move on with your life, unless he comes to your door, or asks you a question - gives you any reason to think he is there for you personally

Jollyhockeystickss · Yesterday 17:50

Id get in my car and park it bumper to bumper touching his car and sit in it with the engine on he will soon move

Would you bollocks!

Flamingojune · Yesterday 18:25

Whatever he's doing its not for you. Too obvious

Happyholidays78 · Yesterday 18:25

Someone I know is a fraud investigator & he spends a lot of time sat in his car. Could also be Police or journalist 🤔

Lifeomars · Yesterday 18:29

Nearly50omg · Yesterday 17:23

id go out and ask him what he’s doing and remind him running a car engine while just sat there is an offence and if he wants to do that to go and do it elsewhere not in a build up residential area

I've done that a couple of times to people parked outside my house and running the engine. have been told to "fuck off and die, I'll do as I want" and the second driver told me he would punch my face in so I just put up with now. It is a reasonbly common occurance round here, usually in the evening and I have seen dealers diviying up their wares .

I love the bollocks people come up with on here. I bet all the ones with all the online bravado wouldn’t say boo to a goose in reality.

Northermcharn · Yesterday 18:31

Looking out for HMRC to catch suspected PIP fraud maybe

AmazingGreatAunt · Yesterday 18:34

What is "parked up"? Surely you are just parked?

Dolphinsarejerks · Yesterday 18:35

Perhaps get support for your anxiety OP and leave members of the public alone.

It’s honestly ridiculous. Too much Netflix.

Bizarre behaviour from you, OP. Not surprised to see the vote going the way it is.

JollyGreenWatermelon · Yesterday 18:37

PyongyangKipperbang · Yesterday 17:36

That is not the main issue at all, and I think you know that. I am well aware that I dont own the road.

But a man who I have never seen before sitting directly outside my house all afternoon is weird and I refuse to believe that I am the only person who would be slightly freaked out by it!

on MN, most posters will love to jump at some paedophile ring potential drama.

In real life? most people won't even notice. Who spends their day checking what is going on in the street?😂

InNewYorkNoShoes · Yesterday 18:37

HortiGal · Yesterday 18:05

Call the police because someone is in their car on a public street? No wonder their stretched if nonsense like this is called in.

Exactly!
Also the police barely do anything about actual crimes they won’t give two shits about someone sat in their car minding their own business 🫤

JollyGreenWatermelon · Yesterday 18:38

Gwenna · Yesterday 18:36

I am hoping undercover police is a tad more subtle

Laura95167 · Yesterday 18:39

Headline reads "Man parks on public road" much pearl clutching follows

Alittlefrustrated · Yesterday 18:41

As nurses, whose local offices were closed in favour of one inconvenient base with hot desking and expensive parking, we were often to be found parked up in streets typing up notes and reports. Also attending meetings, on teams, between visits.
Eating lunch.
Making calls.

Undercover police are not remotely subtle.
