To not want to drive someone else’s car all week?

BlueberryMummy · 08/06/2026 20:30

A friend borrowed my car on Friday because she needed to go and pick up something that wouldn’t fit in her car (it would fit in her car, the only reason it wouldn’t is because her car is full of stuff) and then I had to go out before she got back and her car keys were at mine so she told me to take her keys and her car and then since then our paths haven’t crossed to swap the cars back and I’ve messaged her and called her a few times to ask if we can swap the cars back and she just keeps saying she is busy at that moment but will find time soon to swap the cars back. She’s now asking if she can keep my car until Friday as she needs to go somewhere on Friday and what she is taking won’t fit in her car again because her car is full of stuff and in return I keep her car until Friday. But I just want my car back now. My car is a 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan and her car is a 2024 Range Rover. My husband says I’m overreacting and making a mountain out of a molehill. I feel she is being funny about just giving me my car back, she could have found time already to give me my car back and she certainly could find time before Friday to give me my car back. We both have fully comp insurance on our own cars and are insured to drive other cars but we are only covered for 3rd party damage on other cars. AIBU to not want to drive someone else’s car all week and AIBU to just want my car back now?

...waits impatiently for an update

I too am hoping for an auto-update!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 12/06/2026 13:09

I suspect the car will be returned tomorrow [without cleaning] whenever it suits the "friend" and she has finished transporting whatever stuff she didn't want to sully her new car with and is stubbornly hanging onto it to do.

I also suspect that she will turn up at the weekend when she can charm the OP's husband and they will both gaslight her into feeling unreasonable.

LucyMD presuming you’re a doctor by your username, so while we’re cooling our jets waiting for an update, can I trouble you for an opinion on this mole I have? Not really, but half my family are in medicine and it’s astonishing how people can find a way to turn any interaction into a bid to get a free/instant advice and treatment 😆 But I’ll stop derailing!

Car!!

itsmeits · 12/06/2026 17:24

@BlueberryMummy Any update?

GisGasGus · 12/06/2026 17:47

@BlueberryMummy is going to be getting notifications for years to come as this thread will forever be mentioned in "threads I want to know the conclusion to" posts 😂

BlueberryMummy · 12/06/2026 17:56

I still haven’t got the car back! She’s now refusing to give it back until Monday and she’s even had the cheek to ask if I would instead consider transferring ownership of our cars to each other and keep her car and she keeps mine!

I’m trying my best to get my car back from her though because I just want my car back now.

Surely your last post has jumped the shark. Im sorry but no one would just tolerate this, you would either sit outside her house and swap cars or call the police as its theft. But I just cant see this happening at all.

TwinklyRoseTurtle · 12/06/2026 18:00

This has to be a joke now surely! Because why haven’t you rang the police despite all the advice given to you

BlueberryMummy · 12/06/2026 18:03

I am planning to try and go back round to hers tonight to try again to get my car back.

Tell her No.
Drive to hers tonight, if not tonight 5am tomorrow morning knock her up, if she refuses you may have to call police.
Dont let her bully you into this

Planning to try?

Have you heard of police...? This is insane and you are being way too lenient and blasee. Drive her car back and park it at her house... put her keys in the letter box and phone the bloody cops.

Shatteredallthetimelately · 12/06/2026 18:08

My husband says I’m overreacting and making a mountain out of a molehill.

A week on and does your DH still think the same?

Somethings not quite right in all this. Assuming she does own the RR outright and the bailiffs aren't after it so she's shipped it out of the way for the foreseeable.

VainAbigail · 12/06/2026 18:10

This didn’t happen.

No one is this weak about getting their property back, especially a car!!

Yeah, you jumped the shark with this.

TeaPot496 · 12/06/2026 18:11

Yeah either she's deffo crashed it, trashed it, or this thread is too much..

So she wants to trade you her 2024 Range Rover for your 2016 VW Tiguan?!? Wtf?!? If this is for real - take it!!! Sell the Range Rover and you can get as many 2016 VWs as you like.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 12/06/2026 18:14

If this is real. Police Now! Before she calls the police on you!

If its real, she's done something or is doing something and is just as likely to drag you into it. So call the police anyway

If its real.. I still think that she's stopped paying the car finance on her car. She wants you to swap so she can keep your car and then her car would be repossed from you and you would have no car. Insane.

Why are you being so reluctant to act. Are you scared of her. She has gone beyond the point of no return. No one reasonable or friendly does this and no one hearing about it from her will think she is in the right. Stand up for yourself.
What is your DH doing about it?

DontStopMe · 12/06/2026 18:15

Have you checked what's in the "stuff" in her car? Maybe something there she really wants rid of.

outerspacepotato · 12/06/2026 18:21

Call. The. Police.

Dump her car at her place.

For all you know, her loan company is trying to repo that 24 Range Rover.

She's trying to scam you and doing a pretty good job.

No more messing about, get the police involved.

Survivalandthriving · 12/06/2026 18:29

Tell her if you don’t give me my car back within 2 hours I’m reporting it as theft. You do not have my permission to drive my car anymore. This is madness.

Shinyandnew1 · 12/06/2026 18:29

Phone the police ffs. Honestly I wonder how some people get through the day.
