Teenagers at the gym

AIBU to be sick of it?

Obviously now exams are over a lot of teens have started coming to the gym. It’s rammed tonight, lots of (mainly girls) hogging each machine, spending more time chatting than working out, and one girl was actually screaming as she ran on the treadmill.

I wish they had a set period of time after work for those of us who want to actually work out

Why on earth didn’t you just ask her if you could have a go. You could even explain it’s your favourite bike and I bet she would have jumped off.

She wasn’t giving off a jumping off vibe- she was clearly using it as somewhere to sit and wait for some boys who were on other equipment. She had also ‘just been dumped’ as she loudly told them, and found out because the dumper had changed his profile photo to him and another girl. I’m not without empathy, but the gym isn’t the place for that.

Left the gym years ago because of this. Too many posers.

If they have paid the membership/entrance then they have every right to use the gym, but according to the rules that apply to everyone else. I would tell the staff if you feel they are not sharing the machines as is the norm, or making a racket that's disturbing everyone else.

Depends. Both my teens use the gym to supplement their sport specific training, and take it seriously. I'd be hacked off if they couldn't attend at a convenient time because of age specific rules.

The gym should have someone staffing it to make sure of appropriate behaviour, whatever the age

what does this mean @TouchtheEarth ?! You know you can watch a thread without posting inane ellipsis to clog it up?

The thread struck a chord but I realised after posting that it wasn't relevant to the "teenagers" theme.

Obviously NOT in favour of kids hanging around hogging machines and not using them properly. However if they are allowed to use the machines they will be properly paying customers who have had gym inductions and everything.

Not saying they don't have a right to be there but the children's rate at my gym is less than a third of the adult price.

You might be better off at a 'backstreet' gym, where people are generally more serious about working out.
