Ugly feet should be hidden?

lettuceeat · Yesterday 17:33

I have really ugly feet, bunions, wonky toes, just horrid, I'm mid forties and never wear another shoes my feet as I'm so aware of how unattractive they are but actually it's frustrating every year trying to find footwear for when it's warm, I envy those with flip flops thrown on with shorts or a dress or those with Birkenstock and a dress so should I wear whatever regardless of how ugly my feet are? Like who actually would notice my wonky toes? Would anyone care ? Or comment if they saw my ugly feet?

Painted toe nails look horrible to me. The colour generally just draws attention to them - they are rarely elegant and attractive.

My feel are bony and knobbly - as a teen I agonised over them and kept them out of sight. As an adult I've been complimented on them more than once. Still would rather hide them but no longer care that much.

I think as long as your feet are taken care of in all the ways that are within your control it's fine. You can't help the imperfections!

I hate my feet (absolutely fine except for 4 bent toes but enough for me to feel insecure) but I will still wear sandals abroad, go swimming, on boat trips where you don't wear shoes etc no one has ever commented on them thankfully. Not brave enough to wear them in England yet though :(

I think in general most people wouldn't want to make you feel any worse about them.

I have a fungal nail and don't hide it. It's too hot not to wear sandals.

Where are you that it’s too hot to not wear sandals? It’s fecking freezing here!
but even in the spell of warmer weather we had a few weeks ago it wasn’t too hot to not wear sandals, my feet didn’t spontaneously combust 😂😂

JazzyJelly · Yesterday 22:26

Feet are all revolting. Wear whatever you like.

Why should that be hidden? Sun and fresh air can help, especially if sweat is an issue for the skin. Nail infections aren't dirty or smelly.

Fungal nail infections are highly contagious and no, the chlorine in a swimming pool doesn’t stop transmission,

it's "fine" but people notice cracked heels, hairy toes and unkept nails.

It makes you look unkept and dirty. It's also "fine" to have greasy hair, roots showing, peeling nail polish. It's "fine", but for people who have the most basic pride in their appearance, it's grim 😂

You can't change your feet, but you can still look clean and polished.

Of course hairy toes don't make you look dirty.

I very much doubt I will ever look polished, but I am not ashamed of that and I am not "grim".

Specialneedsnightmare · Yesterday 22:37

Could you get the bunions removed? Not that you have to, but you might feel better about your feet.

I had truly hideous bunions before I had surgery some years ago. Now I am happy to wear sandals and don't feel self conscious anymore. My bunions were incredibly painful so I did have good reason for getting them removed, but the vanity effect is real!

ohwhatthehelly · Yesterday 22:43

I’m not pretty or thin. I do have randomly beautiful feet though - small with a high arch, well proportioned toes and in summer I gel pedi them.

Theyre my pride and joy and I like buying pretty sandals or wearing flip flops and admiring my feet.

but crucially, I genuinely don’t think anyone has every noticed my feet so it’s fairly pointless having nice feet!

even being proud of my own feet doesn’t make me judge other feet (and I am quite a judgy person) if it’s hot I expect people to wear sandals! Why would you not?!

MyThreeWords · Today 07:06

I love your post, @ohwhatthehelly . I love that despite not thinking you are pretty or thin (and perhaps having the usual level of angst and self-criticism that we tend to heap on our own appearance) you have this solid source of pride and it makes you feel good, regardless of what the world notices.

Lovely to think of you striding happily among the beach or whatever and admiring your elegant flip-flopped feet.

We should all choose a body part that gives us that joy.

H202too · Today 07:08

I have recently had my toe nail removed Permanently, my feet look like a trolls. Still wearing sandals. I am not being hot.

Sartre · Today 07:15

Feet are ugly unless you’re someone with a foot fetish. They’re just not a naturally attractive part of the body. I have a big big toe then smaller stubbier second toe so it looks kind of weird. I spent years self conscious as a teen/early 20s but now don’t care.

Sartre · Today 07:17

Oh and I should also say I felt much better about mine after seeing Suki Waterhouse’s feet which probably sounds weird to say. Beautiful woman but her toes are wonky as hell. You don’t often see celebs with wonky toes.

Hotdoughnut · Today 07:20

@Specialneedsnightmarewhat was the op and recovery like? I really need to do this but keep putting it off. 3 young kids, school runs, clubs etc. No idea how it would work if recovery goes on for months and months!

closureatlast · Today 07:24

I have very long (9/10) thin bony feet with knobbly 3rd toes from years of squeezing my feet into size 8s.
They are also blinding white.
I give no fucks.
There's no hard skin as I go to the podiatrist regularly, toenails are painted and most importantly, my feet keep me mobile!

Well, this post has led me down an internet rabbit hole, wasting time looking at photos of celebrities with bunions, when I really should be getting ready for work.

😂 me too! I’ve perused Bic Beckham’s bunions, now looking at Kate Middleton’s fungal toenails.

BCBird · Today 08:02

I.have bunions too. My feet are not nice. When weather permits I will be donning the sandals. I will shave my toes in preparation Confused

that's great, but you are not the OP.

Point was that as long as she make sure her feet look maintained, she doesn't need to hide them. If she didn't care at all, she wouldn't have started the tread.

If it's about the OP, then why the need to pass judgement on others? It's just so unnecessary.

I never suggested they weren't contagious nor that chlorinated pools were safe.

I said fresh air and reducing sweat is a good thing for feet.

Reading comprehension isn't the same as extrapolation....

I developed quite a large bunion on my right foot only about 3 years ago left foot is fine. My boss is a surgeon so he's going to operate on it for me....usual waiting list. Its inconvenient and painful so I cant wait to be rid of it.
The surgery is much better now and very little down time. I dont want to retire with painful feet.
