Ugly feet should be hidden?

lettuceeat · Yesterday 17:33

I have really ugly feet, bunions, wonky toes, just horrid, I'm mid forties and never wear another shoes my feet as I'm so aware of how unattractive they are but actually it's frustrating every year trying to find footwear for when it's warm, I envy those with flip flops thrown on with shorts or a dress or those with Birkenstock and a dress so should I wear whatever regardless of how ugly my feet are? Like who actually would notice my wonky toes? Would anyone care ? Or comment if they saw my ugly feet?

Have you looked at the feet on those around you? Wear your comfortable sandals.

Due to certain health conditions I don’t have the time, energy or money to plough into my feet look ‘pretty’

I wear sliders most of the time as they’re easy to get on and off quickly, so my feet are often on show. Nails are trimmed but that’s it. I don’t give a shit what anyone thinks about it and no one’s ever said anything. Life’s too short to care.

Im an NHS podiatrist seeing young and old and I cant remember the last time I saw some pretty feet. As long as you cream your feet everyday, depilate your toes and get a pedicure nobody will notice your feet.
What people notice are cruddy callused heels and thick fungal nails.

No ones looking at your feet. Generally, no one is looking at anyone's feet. Wear what you want, noone is doing to care.

TheSmallAssassin · Yesterday 18:44

So many posts on here are "Nobody cares about your feet"... as long as you varnish your toenails, moisturise your feet, depilate your toes (!), get a pedicure. It is ABSOLUTELY FINE to just keep your feet clean, no need for primping.

I really really wish feet didn't offend me - but they do. They honestly make me heave when I see cracked heels. I don't care about bunions/weird toes/painted/unpainted, but minging heels - no. I wouldn't dream of ever saying anything to anyone, but I am genuinely amazed how many people say they don't notice them - I wish I didn't.

EnoughRain · Yesterday 18:50

Have you ever happened to notice Victoria Beckham’s feet? She has horrendous bunions. She still puts on strappy sandals.

Nobody cares.

Apart from yellowing hard skin. No need for that at all.

keepswimming38 · Yesterday 18:52

Feet look better when sun kissed. Get them in sandals.

blablablah · Yesterday 18:52

I have small, wide, buniony feet, and after having an absolute shitbag exclaim ‘ha ha ha ha - look at your goblin feet’ when at a picnic once, I became so self conscious about them and would hide them at all costs.

About 5 years ago, I had an almighty ‘so fucking what?’ moment and now wear what I like, when I like with a maximum focus on comfort. I wear animal Swish flip flops and they are so comfortable and cool and no one has recoiled in horror since, and I just wish I’d not hidden them for so long.

Octavia64 · Yesterday 18:53

My feet are shit.

i’ve had multiple operations on them and there’s scars and very wonky toes.

i wear sandals and whatever is most comfortable and all the able bodied people who want perfect feet can fuck off.

I feel like there's a difference between bunions/wonkiness (fine), and flaking dry skin/fungal nail infections etc (hide).

Exactly this. I worked in a shoe shop when I was a student, we didn't bat an eyelid at nobbly bits or puffy feet. It was the neglected, thickened dry heels that made us gip. And I still notice crispy heels when I'm out and about today.

ETA - I have funny little square toddler feet. I look after them though, so don't think twice about letting the rest of the world see them!

Prombles · Yesterday 18:55

Of course not. You don't owe the world pretty feet!

YourWinter · Yesterday 19:04

Use cracked heel cream every night (I like the one in Home Bargains best), always moisturise the top of your feet and toes, and paint yourctoenalis regardless, a few coats of a pale neutral will hide the colour of yellow / brown fungal nails. Or a pop of bright red or burgundy, blue or white. The shape of your feet and presence of bunions won’t bother anyone else.

I was so worried about the state of my feet for DD’s beachside wedding last June had a toenail reconstruction on both big toes. The technician used a burr to thin the ugly, thick claws and built up several coats of something called Toeflex before shaping and painting them. I’d read about LCN but she recommended Toeflex. It was around £50 including applying Opi gel polish on all my toenails. They lasted a few weeks and I had them done once more to last the summer, it was such a huge boost to my confidence and I recommend it!

Someone once said my feet look like hobbits feet. 😁I don’t care they are clean and I have nail polish on so I wear whatever sandals I want.

lettuceeat · Yesterday 19:18

Okay, I feel much better from the responses so far.

The skin on my feet is lovely and soft, no hard bits and definitely no nail infections. I will give my toes a paint in a neutral colour and brave some sandals!!

Make the best of them by ensuring the nails are neat, clean and tidy, and hard skin removed, then forget about them and wear what you like

SleepsAThingOfThePast · Yesterday 19:22

Similar here. I have a bunion and really wide feet that can't even fit in most EEE width howeveri did manage to find some sandals in peacocks that oddly fit. I wore then recently as got to the point of not giving a shit what others think.

When I was young I also wore jeans in a heatwave as hated my size and i have bad veins. Now I wear whatever I like. If people don't like what they see they can look the other way

Jopo12 · Yesterday 19:52

I have the ugliest feet in the world and don't give 2 hoots what anyone else things of them!
Ugly people don't wear a paper bag over their head when they go out in case someone doesn't like the look of their face!

I don't paint my toenails, there's no way I'm wasting any time or money on such ugly feet, a colour would only draw attention to them anyway and make people look.

Disturbia81 · Yesterday 19:56

No one is looking, be comfortable!

it's "fine" but people notice cracked heels, hairy toes and unkept nails.

It makes you look unkept and dirty. It's also "fine" to have greasy hair, roots showing, peeling nail polish. It's "fine", but for people who have the most basic pride in their appearance, it's grim 😂

You can't change your feet, but you can still look clean and polished.

In that case I really don't know what you're worry about?

some people have hard, dirty feet, with cracks in them big enough to park a bicycle!

I still don't care as long as they don't want to rest them on me!

JillThePlantKiller · Yesterday 20:10

Have a look at barefoot shoes and the whole idea of exercising your feet for strength and flexibility to undo the damage of wearing normal shoes. It is completely changing how I feel about my feet.

Hotdoughnut · Yesterday 20:36

I feel you. I have bunions so my toes don't fill the end of sandals, my big toes go diagonally across about 45 degree angle. I hate summer as a result but embrace sandals anyway. A few summers ago I was so proud of myself for going barefoot on a beach, before my nephew asked me "what's wrong with your feet?". So that made me feel bloody wonderful. I need to get operation but can't face the recovery time. They're not even sore but just so embarrassing.

I have a fungal nail and don't hide it. It's too hot not to wear sandals.
