To be sick of threads being removed ‘at the request of the author’

It’s almost always someone who’s not getting the response they want and is having a flounce. But everyone else has given their time and energy to the thread and having their conversations wiped out is just not on.

MN should provide the option to remove the ops posts past the first one as a gesture but stop deleting whole threads. It’s happened multiple times in a couple of days to me. What’s the point of a forum?

I feel like you're overinvested in threads to be 'bloody annoyed' when they get pulled. This level of attachment to other people's dramas or issues isn't healthy.

I feel so are the people who pile on to relentlessly attack an OP.
Mumsnet is really a viper pit. Horrible place at times.

This is a social media site, not a library archive or a news website.

Gosh you’re right. Thank you for showing me the light. Being mildly annoyed and frustrated at pulled threads really does mean that I have an unhealthy attachment to drama. I shall book into therapy asap

And the cheek to follow up that missive with a rant around ‘others’ on MN being vipers. Ffs.

Eh. It happens. Flouncers often throw their toys out of the pram when things don’t go their way. What can MNHQ do but delete the post/thread?

Your exact words were "bloody annoyed" in your OP, check your wording.

And "sick" of it in your thread title.

based on that wording, overinvested and unhealthy attachment to drama seems like a fair assessment....

But now it's 'mildly annoyed' now I pointed it out?

You don’t have any entitlement over threads you’ve posted on. What a weird perspective.

I’ve had several threads removed over the years. Usually because it’s turned into one of those threads where posters demanded more and more info from me which I gave to try and justify myself and not be accused of ‘drip feeding’ to the point where it was potentially identifying.

FettleOfKish · 09/06/2026 13:43

I agree to an extent. Some clearly need zapping because they’ve become a cesspit, but others are very much because the OP is in fact being unreasonable but doesn’t want to hear it.

Meanwhile years ago I asked for a thread to be removed because 2 people in real life had recognised me (it was a fairly benign situation that evolved into an identifying one. A general chat about a particularly wild storm that ended in my home being badly damaged. I didnt really want anyone else to recognise me and link it back to other threads) and I was refused Confused

Give over. I’m not engaging with you anymore. Because you’re doing a good job at cosplaying one of those vipers you so despise. Toodle pip.

That's a very strong, disproportionate and honestly a revealing reaction.

I am now a "viper" because I used the words "overinvested" and "unhealthy attachment to drama". Neither an insult.... merely an observation based on your exact stated words in your OP, which you subsequently retracted.

I seem to have touched a nerve. You could always get this thread deleted if you're upset though.

have a lovely day @Lilaleily.
