Give Betwixt the Sheets a go. Utterly brilliant podcast.

SurleyTurnip · 05/06/2026 13:45

Catering to the “War Dads”. I quite like it though.

And it's not like there isn't a million other podcasts to listen to if you don't like that one.

I love the The Rest Is History. There are over 650 episodes - only a very small percentage are about WW1/2!

AnnaMagnani · 05/06/2026 14:14

They aren't my favourite subjects but they do get the highest ratings, presumably all the blokes.

That said there is usually something interesting in each episode.

Personally I'd prefer more one off episodes instead of series.

DonnaHadDee · 05/06/2026 14:52

There is so much choice out there, and I assume they often select deliberately select topics based on audience potential. I imagine that these WW eispodes have less research overhead too, given the amount of source material. Of course they are lucky that are "big" enough to have episodes on topics they are clearly passionate about.

I'll likely skip these ones due to being very familiar with the topics from school, and grandparents that served during WW2.

To get us in the mood for WW3

They have new episodes so often I can’t say I really mind! I don’t tend to bother with the WW1 and 2 ones but I can’t keep up with the pace they come out anyway so I’ve always got a big back log. Just finishing the series on Samuel Johnson, which I really enjoyed!

i thought the series on the build up to WW1 as brilliant. Less interested in the trenches but I can listen to one of the 493 other podcasts I subscribe to

I know I shouldn’t laugh but this really tickled me.

AnnaMagnani · 05/06/2026 17:21

I loved the Samuel Johnson series but if you look at 'the reddit' it wasn't popular with some viewers/listeners. Probably the same ones who would really like a bit more war.
