AIBU to think £40 is a lot for a home trim?

Am I being unreasonable to think £40 plus is a lot to charge for just a trim, no wash or blow dry. I am looking for someone to come to my home to do it too, so no overheads (pun not intended!), but all the salons charge this and more.

I mean, they do have overheads - fuel, equipment, insurance, travel time - as well as all the other costs associated with being self-employed. It’s not like that £40 is going directly in their pocket.

Yes I pay £7 each for a dry trim at home. Think dc were £5 till 12 years old. Its £10 each if she has to drive to you (but we live on next road). We're in Yorkshire.

Yes. My mobile hairdresser charges £15 for this I think, in the south east.

I pay that in the salon I go to - includes washing, drying, straightening and a cup of tea and a biscuit.

£15 Essex

I pay less than that in a salon for a wash and cut (no blow dry). That's outrageous.

Nodirectionhome · 05/06/2026 13:14

Yes. It is a lot. I pay £13 for a dry trim at the salon in my local town centre. Unisex salon, walk in only. Dry cuts, no other choice. I get a great cut with the same hairdresser every time.

I pay £20 for a dry cut at home. South East.

Mammyloveswine · 05/06/2026 13:33

I pay £75 for a full head of highlights, toner, wash, blow dry and curl! That’s in the salon too! A wet trim at home for £40 is outrageous!

ScouseScram · 05/06/2026 13:33

Find someone else that is a high price.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 05/06/2026 13:34

I’m not even charged that in the salon I go to!

countrygirl99 · 05/06/2026 13:38

I pay £39 for a salon wash and blow dry

I got to my hairdresser who lives literally 2min walk from me.
I have short hair which grows fast she just sprays it damp and cuts she first charged £30 but upped it to £35 before Xmas
It just very convenient for me

£15 wet cut. South east

OrangeMochaFrappuccino · 05/06/2026 21:12

This is my old hairdresser’s current price list. I stopped using him when it became cheaper to get my hair cut in a salon instead of paying his prices to come to my home.

They're coming to your home and cutting your hair. £40 seems pretty reasonable to me.
