Been in bed 5 hours now and not slept a wink. I have pain under my right rib. Im convinced its liver damage from recently taking terbinafine. Though I don't have any other symptons. But the pain is bad. Im waiting for morning to go to the hospital. I am sick with worry. I have kids & a job to maintain. Will anyone cry with me at 3am?

I'm up. At work at on the phones for an out of hours GP.

Hows things going?

Asid12 · 01/06/2026 03:42

Sorry you’re worried and having pain. Something like gallstones or pulled muscle seem more likely. Terbinafine possible, but they usually monitor liver function on blood tests when taking it, - a related problem often would show up on those rather than suddenly presenting with pain.
If pain very bad have you considered hospital now rather than morning?

piscofrisco · 01/06/2026 03:45

I’m up too. Can you call 111 op? They will make you an appointment at the walk in at least so you can avoid the a and e wait?
Hooefully it won’t be what you think it is-and something easily fixable.

Allsortsjam56 · 01/06/2026 03:46

It's a very specific pain I've never had before which is making me overly anxious about liver.

I justvthink that going to the hospital now will mean sitting I an a&e chair for 6 hours rather than tossing and turning in my bed.

I think try not to worry about that part. Really tough with work and kids but hopefully the pain will start to ease and you can have some sleep in the next few hours. Worrying in the night can be awful and can make things seem much worse, worst case you don’t sleep and you’ll be tired tomorrow but then will sleep the night after or a nap in the day if that’s possible 🙂

Therandomtrekker1 · 01/06/2026 04:02

Ring 111, it might put your mind at easy if you can talk to someone or make an appointment. Then perhaps you’ll get a little sleep

MoonlightMemories · 01/06/2026 04:08

I'm up as well, not been sleeping good recently due to stress and what I'm pretty sure is an outer ear infection. I had one before that felt exactly the same so have done an online pharmacy consultation for the same meds I had which worked... really hope they get delivered soon as it's causing me so much pain with anything related to that ear and that side of my throat from referred pain.

I had a really bad hiccuping spell yesterday and I honestly wanted to do a van Gogh and chop my ear off or something...I couldn't believe how much each one hurt 😭

I'm absolutely shattered as I've only slept a few hours but the pain is making it hard to fall asleep again/settle.

I've got a shop to be delivered later and some chores to do...going to be like a zombie though at this rate!

I hope everything turns out ok with you in the morning and that your pain eases 🙂

BusiBo · 01/06/2026 04:09

Witchyvibes · 01/06/2026 04:11

I’m up (still early in the US). Sending lots of sympathy

blenny23 · 01/06/2026 04:19

I’m still awake also. Very much exhausted and in need of sleep but I have a very early morning medical appointment that I’m stressed about, and a rambunctious two year old to manage, so my brain just won’t switch off. ☹️

Pain up under your ribs on the right side is more likely to be your gallbladder than your liver, but do get it checked out.

I get pain in that spot and after 15ish years, an ‘incidental finding’ of something else on my liver (that they decided wasn’t responsible for the pain), they’ve finally decided that I have a “sluggish” gallbladder and that the pain comes on as the “sludge” finally passes through the ducts (yes, that’s the technical term they used 😂). And the middle of the night is a common time for that to occur! There’s nothing they can do about a sluggish gallbladder, so I just have to put up with it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I also get pain in that area sometimes as I’m hypermobile and my bottom rib sometimes “slips” on that side.

Definitely best to get it checked out though. Good luck!

Fatiguedwithlife · 01/06/2026 04:24

I’m up (perimenopause) and a kitten licking my face doesn’t help 🙄
Went outside to record the dawn chorus because they’re so bloody loud! There’s an app called Merlin that identifies all the birdsong. Had a decaf tea and going to try and sleep a bit more.
Good luck with your pain OP (agree it sounds gallbladder related)

Rowgtfc72 · 01/06/2026 04:36

Morning
Up for work at 340am mon- Fri. Also menopause hates me having more than 4hrs broken sleep!
Hope the pain starts to ease a bit.
Agree with 111, try and prebook an appointment.
And also I'd say gallstones or gastritis for that side.
If you can't get back to sleep I wouldn't lay there worrying. Get up and make a cuppa, listen to the birds, watch some tv.

Hope you get sorted.

OhThePotential · 01/06/2026 04:40

It does sound like gallbladder pain, op.

4.30 and I’m still up with menopausal insomnia, nesting Swallows yelling their heads off and a frozen shoulder 🤷🏻‍♀️

Afterthefact · 01/06/2026 04:45

Have you ever had this pain before? What did you eat before the pain started?
Do you feel bloated?
It does sound like gall bladder/stones - it usually takes me a couple of days to recover but you should be seen by GP or hospital.
Maybe take paracetamol in the meantime.

Rosesandthorns66 · 01/06/2026 04:49

I woke up at 3.00am and can't get back to sleep.
It also think this sounds like gallbladder stones, drink plenty of water.
Also, please get this checked and I hope you get better, soon. Take care.
