What should I look for when finding a financial advisor?

I need to speak to one about an inheritance matter. Posting here for traffic!

First thing, are they registered on the FCA website? This will tell you about the firms they work for and what they are approved to advice on. They should have a firm number that is related to their ID. Are you happy with somone who owns their own firm and self certify or part of a bigger firm and has compliance officer attached. Every page will have a compliance email, name and telephone number.
