AIBU to wonder why people post but ignore all advice?

What’s the point of posting if you aren’t going to listen or take on board anything people say? Lol and then even get defensive. What’s the point? Seen quite a few posts where someone has asked for advice but it’s clear the OP has made their mind up. Just confused or do people do it for rage bait

They want validation, not advice.

Because people need time to process things, and what might be right for one poster might be wrong for someone else in similar circumstances.

When I see -

Help. My husband doesn't do any housework or childcare. He's off with his mates all the time. He complains about my food but won't cook. He earns the most but insists on keeping his money separate. I have to pay for everything for the children, including the childcare. Don't suggest separation as that's not what I want...

Yeah, I do think why are you posting then? What do you actually want people to say?

neverbeenskiing · 30/05/2026 18:49

Because people almost always know what they're going to do already.

Yeah and then they start defending them and it’s like what’s the point then, what do you want me to say?

Sometimes people just want to vent/rant. Annoying but I get it.

You might not act on advice, but it's not necessarily wasted. I might ask friends' opinions about say - what jumper to buy or something more important and only when they say 'get the red one' do I realise that I really want the blue one. So advice can be helpful in reaching a decision even if you don't follow it.

As the MN cliche goes...
First post nails it.
