To pay for this rather than do it myself?

Is it a waste of money to spend £25 to get my car cleaned inside/out as opposed to doing it myself? A debate I had earlier with a colleague, I like that it’s hassle free and seems a faff to buy everything needed to do it on my own.

Well no because if you don't have the time or motivation to do it yourself, then money well spent.

FunMustard · Yesterday 20:55

Hell no. Spend your money on whatever you like.

Would I? No. Because I don't mind a filthy car Grin

fizzyroselemonade · Yesterday 20:56

It cost me £35 for the same thing earlier this month so I think it sounds like a bargain

PancakeCloud · Yesterday 20:56

I think that sounds like a great use of money.

Star81 · Yesterday 20:56

Spend your money how you wish ! There must be enough people happy to pay for the service given how many valet businesses are about

troppibambini6 · Yesterday 20:56

I pay the same get it done once a month. Not a waste at all.

TheodoreisntBeth · Yesterday 20:57

I paid £40 to get mine done last week. I needed the time more than I needed the money so I paid someone else to do it while I did something else I needed to do.

Your money / your choice
no one else’s business .

It's never unreasonable to outsource household jobs if you can afford it. Money is there to make life easier and more pleasant. Crack on!

Backedoffhackedoff · Yesterday 21:01

I never clean my own car, I hate doing stuff like that

Swissmeringue · Yesterday 21:03

There's absolutely nothing wrong with paying to outsource something you don't want to do, provided you can afford it. I get my car cleaned every couple of months. It's £35 a time and I could do it myself. But I'd much rather pay someone else to do it while enjoying a coffee across the road.

ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit · Yesterday 21:07

My general view is if you don’t like doing something, and can afford to outsource it then do it.

BashfulClam · Yesterday 21:26

It’s your money it’s not like you asked them to pay for it. I even pay someone to come and clean my oven. It’s the worst job so I outsource it.

Hollowvoice · Yesterday 21:39

Some things are worth spending money on. In my opinion this is one of them

Enigma54 · Yesterday 22:31

£25 sounds like a bargain! Pretty sure I paid £35 for a full valet a few years ago. I’m paying someone to take in my ironing next week too ( now that is money well spent!)

Did you have it done at home? I fi d if I have to take it somewhere for cleaning then I'm just hanging about waiting

No but it's 3 minutes walk from my house so I just leave it there then go back when I'm free. It's less efficient if you have to wait around for it somewhere I agree.

Oh that's useful.

Yeah I'd have to go a couple of miles and it's not really near much else

WondersofJobby · Yesterday 22:49

Your colleague's argument is stupid. Do they buy u sliced bread and wash their clothes by hand? I doubt it.

MeltyMomenrs · Yesterday 22:49

I pay to have mine cleaned. £35 inside & out & I consider it money well spent. It looks lovely when they're finished, far better than when I've done it!

NoisyBuilder · Yesterday 22:53

Do it!

There's loads of these kind of jobs where yes, you could do it yourself but for a relatively small amount of cash it can be given to someone who doesn't mind doing it and does a much better job in half the time.

No brainer if you can afford it.

JustGiveMeReason · Yesterday 22:56

If you have the money to spare, then no-one is BU to spend money on getting someone else to do a job they

  • don't have time to do themselves
  • don't like doing
  • don't have the skills to do
  • just don't want to do

I can't understand why anyone would consider it unreasonable.

I don't spend it myself, as it doesn't appeal, but I suspect I pay for other things that you wouldn't choose to spend your money on.

Morepositivemum · Yesterday 22:57

Sold the car this year and I paid for a valet instead of doing it myself. It was 35 euro and they did ten times the job I could have and it would have taken me hours more. Gave a ten euro tip and thanked them so much they didn’t look like they believed me😅

That’s great value and a great use of your time

Yup. Same with going to a resturant when you can cook yourself. Or buying a jumper when you could knit. And don't get me started on going to the theatre when you could just switch the big light off and take it in turns to recite Hamlets soliloquy and sing I dreamed a dream.
