Really? She lived with this guy and didn't know? She had a camper van parked on the drive and didn't know he stole the money to buy it?

I don't buy it.

But NS was his boss, and was supposed to sign off SNP accounts.

AH DID SING THEM OFF

Anyone with a brain in Scotland knows how dodgy Sturgeon is. I can't stand her or the SNP. She is a shocking excuse for a female. She sold us down the river with her single sex spaces opposition. Called us women who were against sharing toilets with men transphobic, bigoted and probably racist. She would have sold anyone for a vote. She doesn't recall anything but we will never forget. Power hungry, brainwashing, greedy, useless, lying, batshit bitch.

Given the amount of time he was stealing before NS was leader are we assuming Alex Salmond also knew?

The police statement said 2010-2022 - at that point Salmond would have been the ultimate financial sign off, and Murrell worked for Salmond for many many years so they knew each other well.

Given Natalie McGarry’s embezzling actions around 2014 it does make me wonder if funds into own pockets was simply a common habit in the SNP. It’s particularly interesting that McGarry’s actions were spotted first by Women for Independence, not the SNP. Plus the news and investigation about McGarry didn’t pick up anything else.

So many people enter Politics with modest savings and lifestyles yet within years are extremely wealthy.

But the Police cleared Sturgeon and the SNPs treasurer, so if Sturgeon is guilty and its so obvious, then the only conclusion is the Police are corrupt too, along with the entire justice system as the verdict given AFTER elections

Convient they wait till after the referendum to convict him. And the SNP still voted in it’s unbelievable. They impose the highest tax in uk saying higher earners won’t even notice the extra hundreds in tax a month! While SNP leaders stealing money for lavish lifestyle it’s unbelievable.

The referendum was in 2014.

Again, how do you account for her professional culpability then?

Not knowing what your husband does is one thing. Not knowing what the chief executive of the party you lead does? Downright scandalous.

They should never have been allowed to hold both posts. That's corrupt in itself.

The set up allowed him to do this so you have a point.

I read he bought 2 salt grinders for £2.400! WTF .He seems to have been spending piles of cash on odd items .She not being aware seems odd to me.I dont think she was involved but it sees strange to me .she must have turned a blind eye I think

I voted YABU due to personal experience of this. Not that amount though. My late father embezzled a huge amount of money from the company he worked for. It was explained away as bonuses, overtime etc etc. Very little went on my Mum or the family but there were occasional splurges on us.

My Mum had no idea until the police arrived one morning looking for him. He wasn’t there, he was elsewhere as he often was.

So it’s possible (but only just) that Nicola had no idea. Especially as she earned well herself. In fact because she earned so well you could argue it have been even less obvious. You could also argue that it should have been more obvious to someone like my Mum who had very little and relied on my Dad while she coped with three small children. Splashes of cash were noticeable …as was the fact he often didn’t come home.

He went to prison, Mum finally got a divorce and remarried later on to a man who did the whole Dad thing that my biological Dad did not.

The difference is that she was ultimately responsible for the audit of the organisation from which he was embezzling.

It's not just that she didn't notice the camper van at her mother in laws.

It's that she claims not to have noticed that the party had also bought a £125,000 camper van that nobody seemed to be using, and she actively shut down attempts to raise concerns.

I'm waiting for the motorhome to appear on our drive as DH bought me some handcream for my birthday.

Don't forget to check his Mum's drive. It's clearly a good hiding place for a huge expensive surprise camper van!

Much of the list seems quite camp.

Or maybe that is the nature of luxury goods.

ByGraptharsHammer · Yesterday 09:31

The really cynical version of this story is that it was a lavender marriage, Sturgeon got married to him for the control it would give her, that they both benefited, she carried on with her affairs on the side, he got sign off for the lifestyle, and perhaps there prior corruption about the SNP accounts which is said to have happened stayed in house and almost impossible to see. She spent most of her time in Edinburgh and lived a life effectively alone. She could have been open, but it would not have given her the control she wanted. And she was quite ruthless in dispatching anyone who might have threatened that, including her former mentor Salmond. He discovered that all the talents and control he had passed to her would be used against him later. That is the story, and it’s nearly Shakespeare, frankly.

Cyclebabble · Yesterday 09:33

Having worked in combatting fraud for some years this type of fraudster is common. Over time he or she comes to think that they are the organisation and that any money they have access to is theirs to spend. When a large and new RV suddenly appeared the first question anyone would ask is where did it come from and how did you afford it? The fact that no such discussion took place is suspicious to say the least.

That's because it was WFI money she stole - not SNP money.

Yeh they are odd. The lists are taking me back to a jury trial for about £400k too in corporate theft and just going through reams on items. Not as eclectic as this list.

She was convicted of embezzling from both WFI and the SNP.

What type of salt and pepper would you put in a £2.4K grinder set? It wouldn’t be your bog-standard supermarket cheapies, surely?

GasPanic · Yesterday 09:41

Maybe she's just got no taste which is why she missed all the expensive designer stuff.

Some people (the majority IME) just don't have any eye for detail or quality.

It was quite interesting to see the mindset of someone who stole £400k. They thought they deserved it as others in life had stuff, so should they. The person on trial did get jail time.
