Help! Have I been scammed

I’ve had the YSL Loulou small handbag on my wish list for a long time! I found a seller online that has 100% positive feedbacks that are verified, I can see the past purchases that customers made and they are for other designer bags. So when I saw they have the Loulou, I sent them an offer, it was accepted and sent out the next day. The person even provided the receipt.

I was happy with the bag, however I was adamant to ensure it’s not a fake bc nothing is stopping someone having a genuine receipt but sending a fake bag with it or even forging a receipt. The bag itself to me looks very real, but I have only compared to what I can see online, the only thing that throws me off about the bag is the designer name inside the bag.

I’ll attach photos and if anyone can tell me what they think or if they have the same real bag, compare it to see it matches. The person seems so genuine, I’ve got til
monday to return the bag. I constantly keep going back and forth!

Be wary of posts like this.

It could be a seller 'testing the market' for fakes.

Apologies in advance OP if it's not the case, but it's so obvious and it does happen.

Monty36 · Yesterday 16:38

Am sorry that looks like a fake.

The seller would find out a surprising number of Mumsnet users own designer handbags, are familiar with the authentication protocols of various designer resale hubs, and have sharp eyes. So what?

Completely agree. Fools and their money…

Just imagine actually knowing @LittleRobins in RL? Even worse… living with them.

That is a vivid imagination you have there @DaffodilLill

Yes, I know teens love a brand but OP is clearly not buying something because she loves it, she's only wants it for the label which I think is odd for an adult.

I get that some people love and are prepared to spend on labels because they like the look of the product, but that's different to what OP is experiencing as she does like the look of it but doesn't want it without the label.

But quite often teens literally only want something because of the brand, and I imagined you having to repeat this over and over and refusing to ever buy for them!

I couldn’t give a fig about labels for myself but fine to buy for teens wanting something purely for the label on occasion!

Thank you to all the folk who corrected me.....seriously. I own a fake Rolex (long story, I didn't buy it) and have never liked to wear it because I thought it was illegal to own it.

That doesn't make any sense! Let's leave the legality of owning fake things asside. You are telling someone off because you thought owing fakes is illegal. Meanwhile, you own a fake rolex that you didn't wear thinking is illegal. But you still own it, just don't wear it so why you tell someone that is illegal when you yourself own something fake?! Why the hypocrisy? Keyboard warriors everywhere

DancingNotDrowning · Yesterday 17:10

This is mine - “Saint Laurent” isn’t centred to the centre stitch, so that’s definitely not a sign of it being fake, although I notice yours doesn't have a centre line.

i don’t know enough about the editions to know if that’s a bad sign for you

Maybe I'm just more worldly wise 😀

Most sites selling designer goods do have a pretty solid filtering system to check for fakes, so if this bag slipped through the net, OP needs to contact them and raise it as an issue.

Lesson learned: don't get so attached to things. They're just things.

whattheysay · Yesterday 17:20

Most likely on vinted it’s a fake. I can get this bag with box etc for £30 so if I can get it easily enough so can many other people and the will make money off them. However you can’t tell if it’s a fake and you like the bag so just use the bag and enjoy it. If you want a guaranteed real bag you have to buy it from a proper store, so just enjoy your new bag

OP has not said where she bought it.

But if it's selling for £30 it's obviously a fake!

If OP paid £300 that's different.

Swampthing55 · Yesterday 17:25

Both eBay and Vinted hav3 a verification service for ten pounds. I f you are paying for a designer bag why would you risk it?looks fake to me but the photos ar3 just horrendous. A genuine one if from 700.00 quid for a micro so surely it's worth the price to verify it?

HoskinsChoice · Yesterday 17:31

You got a ‘designer’ bag from some random seller online for less, presumably, than the price of a genuine YSL bag. At what point did you think this WASN’T a scam? 😵‍💫

Exactly! Although I don't agree it's a scam. Of course it's not real. Unless you buy from a legitimate retailer, it isn't going to be real. They are pretend real aka fake. Isn't that just assumed by both the seller and the buyer?

SaltShark · Yesterday 17:37

I wouldn't even tell the difference then again im not in to bran names.

No I don’t know where op got the bag but it’s still the same situation. She bought a bag and who knows if it’s fake she can’t tell herself so she should just use and enjoy the bag

She didn’t pay £30, but I can buy these for £30 they are fakes obviously. I don’t have any inclination to scam people and sell them as the real deal but many people do but that’s how much these fakes cost, sometimes less.

did I tell them off? Also as I said, I didn't buy it or even choose to have it.

AlternateLook · Yesterday 18:00

godmum56 · Yesterday 15:05

Two things. If its not genuine then I wouldn't want to pay a "real" price for it. The other thing is that owning fakes is illegal.

Owning fakes is illegal? Oh. ffs....😂😆

I have a couple of ysl bags. My loulou has black hardware and is 4 years old so will be slightly different. It was bought in store. I’ll attach a photo. The bit of writing under “saint laurent Paris” clearly says “made in Italy” but this is not very clear in the photo. What does that squiggle say underneath in your photo? I would also say that the gold hardware does look very yellow in your photos. Having said that I felt that the YSL shop in bicester stocks bags that don’t appear to be as good quality as those in Bond Street/selfridges etc So maybe they have batches that don’t pass quality control? Where does the receipt say that it was supposedly bought?

Not chosing to have something means to take active steps to get rid of it. If you have it and do nothing about it then you chose to have it.

Thank you to all the folk who corrected me.....seriously. I own a fake Rolex (long story, I didn't buy it) and have never liked to wear it because I thought it was illegal to own it.

In some countries it could be confiscated by customs though. But more likely if it was in your bag and not on your wrist.

She clearly specifically wanted this brand and paid much much more than if she’d strolled in to a department store and go an unbranded one of good quality that she liked

Nowhere does it say what she's paid

This is why I don't get people buying labels. If you can't tell yourself, why do you care?

How about quality? Some designer brands are of superb quality.

I can't find anything remotely as nice as a pair of charity-shop bought Bally of Switzerland loafers - unworn - they were priced at £120 - I bought when I googled the brand and honestly, if I had the money, I would buy these designer loafers again and again. A friend has a Globetrotter suitcase, I can't afford it, but would love to buy one if I had the money - but carryon only, for the quality and weightlessness. Proper Scottish cashmere (don't give a shit what brand) is always branded - can't compare with modern M&S cashmere, etc. And again, a dream coat of my friend with the suitcase - MaxMara, she has been wearing it for 20 years and it is like new. My other friends has a real Crombie coat - same thing - looks and feels amazing. I can't afford these purchases, but golly, if I could!
