Help! Have I been scammed

I’ve had the YSL Loulou small handbag on my wish list for a long time! I found a seller online that has 100% positive feedbacks that are verified, I can see the past purchases that customers made and they are for other designer bags. So when I saw they have the Loulou, I sent them an offer, it was accepted and sent out the next day. The person even provided the receipt.

I was happy with the bag, however I was adamant to ensure it’s not a fake bc nothing is stopping someone having a genuine receipt but sending a fake bag with it or even forging a receipt. The bag itself to me looks very real, but I have only compared to what I can see online, the only thing that throws me off about the bag is the designer name inside the bag.

I’ll attach photos and if anyone can tell me what they think or if they have the same real bag, compare it to see it matches. The person seems so genuine, I’ve got til
monday to return the bag. I constantly keep going back and forth!

Can you get to somewhere like Selfridges or Harvey Nichols to directly compare?

Hassell · 23/05/2026 14:27

Yeah it’s fake
and you received no evidence or authentication
you took a risk. It has not paid off

Sodonewithbeingachub · 23/05/2026 14:29

The spacing and alignment of the logo look slightly inconsistent compared with authentic Saint Laurent interior stamps.
The gold foil stamping appears a bit soft/fuzzy rather than sharply pressed.
The leather grain and edge finishing look less refined than what you’d usually expect from authentic YSL leather goods.
The stitching near the edge looks uneven.

As a PP says you could go and compare them in store.

Hassell · 23/05/2026 14:31

The receipt isn’t proof

it just shows they bought the bag once. So one bag, which they probably kept!, was real

HoskinsChoice · 23/05/2026 14:55

Does it matter? If you like the bag, use it, if you don't, sell it. Surely you're not that shallow and naive that you'd buy something just for a label?

fantam · 23/05/2026 14:59

I have no idea, but I think I understand the love some have for designer bags. I hope it's not fake anyway.

Without wishing to sound offensive, I think if I wanted a designer bag I'd make sure to buy it at full price from a bricks and mortar shop though. Sorry...

Two things. If its not genuine then I wouldn't want to pay a "real" price for it. The other thing is that owning fakes is illegal.

Ireolu · 23/05/2026 15:08

Return the bag and get one from the store if this will stress you. No one on AIBU/MN can confidently tell you the bag is the real deal. Strongly suggest you look into YSL quality too.

Why though? What is a 'genuine' bag? Surely if she likes it and it's decent quality it doesn't matter? Or at least it shouldn't. Cheap designer bags are never going to be real. They wouldn't be cheap if they were real. Surely the OP knows this.

Secondly, if she's in the UK it isn't illegal to buy or own fakes. It is illegal to sell them but not buy them (unless buying with intent to sell).

Is it not illegal to own fake bags.

She clearly specifically wanted this brand and paid much much more than if she’d strolled in to a department store and go an unbranded one of good quality that she liked

Hassell · 23/05/2026 15:14

The receipt means nothing

Of course it's not illegal 😂

You’re joking! Owning a fake is illegal 😆

do you mean selling fakes whilst saying they are real?

KellsBells7 · 23/05/2026 15:16

I would guess counterfeit but the photos aren’t good enough. Go onto the purse forum, someone on there will help authenticate but you’ll need more photos.

godmum56 · 23/05/2026 15:20

Thank you to all the folk who corrected me.....seriously. I own a fake Rolex (long story, I didn't buy it) and have never liked to wear it because I thought it was illegal to own it.

Blueper · 23/05/2026 15:21

Return it, you will be worrying the whole time otherwise. I think Vinted has a function to confirm authenticity of designer items? I think a bit of extra due diligence when buying next time might help you feel more secure.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/05/2026 15:22

You got a ‘designer’ bag from some random seller online for less, presumably, than the price of a genuine YSL bag. At what point did you think this WASN’T a scam? 😵‍💫

WallaceinAnderland · 23/05/2026 15:34

This is why I don't get people buying labels. If you can't tell yourself, why do you care?

Andepeda · 23/05/2026 15:34

Ask AI, lots of useful tips.

Why is that relevant?

Presumably OP is not a teenager.

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross pre owned will be cheaper though, and so more affordable to many.
