AIBU to think Mumsnetters are miserable?

Mumsnetters are miserable aren't they?

Anytime anybody shows any sign they are doing well for themselves, they are pounced upon?

Ask for a luxury hotel recommendation and you are insensitive in a COL.

Ask for ideas for a new wardrobe and you hate the planet whilst at the same time support child slavery.

Ask for ideas on a holiday home and you are scum of the earth who are stopping locals buying.

These are real life examples I have seen this week.

They aren't this miserable in real life are they?

So because I don't think there is any need for someone to own more than one home I need to get a life?
Why? Because my opinion is different from yours?

I don't think it's a different of opinion that matters, this is a forum where differences in opinion should be encouraged.

I think it's often the way its communicated.

The unwritten rule on here seems to be - take every comment in the worst way possible. If there is a negative interpretation to be had - go with that one. Never give anyone the benefit of the doubt. Assume all other mumsnetters are out to get you / basically evil people. Take offence wherever possible. Assume the worst of everything and everyone at all times. But consider yourSELF to be superior in every way.

Not at all! You need to get a life because you're targeting the op by bringing her previous thread into this one.

For whatever reason it's really wrankled your undies which isn't good for your blood pressure and stress levels.

I've no doubt you gave your opinion on the other thread, I'm sure she read it and will consider your viewpoint so it's time to move on and let it go. That's not the subject that this thread is about so no need to fixate on it, it's not good for you. Now breathe.....

I haven't even viewed it yet!

But thank you! x

I wouldn't bother, you're not missing anything 🥱😴😁

Purplerumple · Yesterday 15:47

The But Olympics are quite impressive though

Livpool · Yesterday 15:48

I agree! Right load of miserable buggers 😂😂

Didimum · Yesterday 15:48

Oh, without a doubt. It's a very negative space.

You are correct. I haven't smiled in three years except when I saw a child fall into a stream.

😂

I don't know - you're a Mumsnetter, are you miserable?

Good one 😂😂.

Folks can be miserable @coulditbeme2323 , but it's part of the fun of MN. Hopefully it doesn't always travel into everyday life.

I hope not!

I think parenting in general can be very political with everyone judging everyone else's choices whether its about feeding, types of nappies, whether you sahm or work. Social media has made it worse.

Monty36 · Yesterday 15:58

I think they can be. I think sometimes posts are written seeking favourable responses from readers but are scant on some key details.
I do think that mumsnet has a tendency to be down on men, mothers in law, or parents in law in general. Or anyone considered old.
And some posters love the misery. Some have a political agenda about men. Or women. Posters from America particularly so where women are concerned.
Some posters are really provocative. And enjoy it.
There isn’t much of a balance of happy posts on here no. But it is nice when there are.

Or the posters who post about going to Disney, and somebody think ICE are going to be waiting for them in Fantasy Land because they once mentioned Trump on MN.

You do get some laughs on here though. I'm still giggling about the drunk employee playing the bongo drums on his bosses head at work do on another thread.

I didn't even realise it was the same poster!

Why would you make such sweeping assumptions based on one widely held and politely stated opinion? And why would you do it in such an offensive way? How does that add to the quality of the discourse?? Why not just make the opposing argument instead?

Dontlletmedownbruce · Yesterday 16:05

I was attacked on a thread a while back for not being incandescent with rage over something. I wasn't goady or anything just replied to an AIBU saying I wouldn't be too bothered about this specific thing. Others were furious on OPs behalf. Apparently not being furious made me totally unreasonable!

I hope they were injured.

WhatNoRaisins · Yesterday 16:08

For me it's that a lot of people seem absolutely joyless on here. I mean the ones that sneer at people who enjoy going to weddings or that are convinced that they are persecuted for being an introvert or that only want to spend time with their little family.

butterpuffed · Yesterday 16:09

Quite a few MNers are deliberately argumentative rather than miserable, they wouldn't be like that in RL .

Or a poster says they only have £1.56 left for the month and are told "that's loads"

Im not sure miserable is the right word tbh, a lot are fucking insannneeeee.
They have a problem with everything, I don't know anyone like this is real life, I would say some of them would get slapped quite a bit in real life!
