AIBU to think a bar and bistro should actually serve food?

An old pub has been renovated and opened up just before Christmas last year. Advertised as a bar and bistro. Went in and asked for a menu: "We don't do food." You're advertising yourselves as a bistro "We have a burger van in the car park some days" 🙈🙈🙈

To me a bistro should serve food, it's an odd business choice to call it that!

I wonder what they think bistro means? 😁

You are definitely NBU

I just messaged a friend who lives opposite it. Apparently they haven't got the kitchen finished yet!

A burger van in the car park does not equal bistro 😂 Yanbu!

Yes a bistro should serve food!

What do they think the point of the word "bar" and the word "bistro" both existing actually is?

I think it's different if they will soon but have opened the bar part before the bistro part is ready

I mean it's still odd, but not AS odd! Also weird they wouldn't have said that when you asked for a menu "Sorry the kitchen won't be ready for a couple of weeks" rather than "we don't do food"- In fact the sensible thing would be to have signs up letting people know

I think they ran out of money, opened as a bar to get money to finish up the kitchen!

That's bizarre. I mean if it was brand new and the food side was basically them selling kitchen space to a third party, and that hadn't fallen into place yet. Then maybe. But not just we never do food. And a burger van out back is not a bistro!

Nobody's going to go there surely?
