to ask what alcohol has the most orangey taste?

Ok, so I want to serve up thinly sliced oranges (and as advised) in Cointreau.

However before I go buying a bottle of the Cointreau, I’ve also been told that Grand Marnier is also orangey.

Can anyone give me their opinion, especially if they’ve tried both, so better able to compare?

Thank you

Orange cointreau grande Mariner is more of a tangerine taste

NoGarlic · 20/05/2026 02:21

Grand Marnier is more brandy-ish. There's Curaçao, made from bitter oranges, and Cointreau as you know. I think Cointreau's the safest bet for your purpose.

Cointreau. Or any triple sec. Cointreau is just a branded and expensive triple sec.

Someone bought me a bottle of Blood Orange Cointreau a few years ago. It was a special edition, so not sure if you can still get it, but it was intensely orange-y!

Humblepieman · 20/05/2026 09:56

Aperol if you like sour orange but Cointreau is probably the most.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 20/05/2026 10:00

Definitely Cointreau.

There is also triple sec if you want something with a lower alcohol content

Ah….! Thank you, you see I didn’t have a clue about triple sec. I mean I’ve vaguely heard of it, but didn’t realise it was an orangey thing 🤣

Thank you kindly to all that have posted.

Mandarin Napoleon is a better option

Owly11 · 21/05/2026 07:51

Cointreau will be best.

Oranges in cointreau is divine. Stick to the recipe for this one.
I haven't had it for years. What time is dinner again?

Fifthtimelucky · 21/05/2026 08:27

My father used to love Strawberries in Cointreau (thought I’d mention it given that strawberry season is here and you will presumably have some Cointreau left in the bottle)!

Cuarenta y tres (or licor 43) has citrus flavours.
