AIBU to ask why some men leave urine on the floor?

There’s been several Pee theme posts recently. I had no idea men peeing on the floor is a common problem. My husband does this too. Can anyone explain why this happens? I thought it was just him. I don’t remember my Dad or my ex doing this. Is it laziness or is there a genuine reason? Just trying to work it out before I actually accuse him of it as I know he will deny it!😩

No males i know personally do it but I see heaps of it on womans toilets in public amongst other gross things there

Floppyearedlab · 19/05/2026 10:32

It’s disgusting
And women do it too. Refusing to sit on the seat and spraying it everywhere and not clearing up. Just gross.
Not flushing too and leaving paper on the floor.
I am sure animals are cleaner than humans.

A lack of respect for the person who cleans the bathroom. I can’t think of any other reason why an adult would think “that’s fine, I don’t need to clean that up. Someone else will do it”

InterestedDad37 · 19/05/2026 10:35

Those who do it are lacking in self-awareness and just don't care. I'm a bloke, and once a week go to a hobby with a group of men. At some point, someone will pee on the toilet floor. I have found myself clearing up other men's urine, just so that people don't think it's me. I have now taken to calling it out, and announcing to the group that someone has peed on the floor. It's ruffled a few feathers, but I don't care. Come on fellas, have some pride and dignity.

CurlewKate · 19/05/2026 10:36

Because they think it’s a woman’s job to clean up after them. And they think all men are like this. They aren’t. However, a lot are.

MrsShawnHatosy · 19/05/2026 10:38

My DHnever does. Or if he does he cleans up.

I’ve never mentioned it, I just clear it up as I feel embarrassed for him as I thought it was just him. Now I know it’s a common issue I intend to ask him but looking for facts about why it happens

And this is why he does it, because you are being too kind to spare his own feelings and call him out on his disrespectful behaviour and sense of entitlement to act in such a way. Would you go and pee on the floor and not clean it up? Am guessing not. Until you make him clean it up himself or call him out on it he will simply assume you will do it, nothing will change. Tell him in no uncertain terms that he clears it up - properly - or he sits, you won’t stand for his lack of respect to you and your home.

Not sure . He’s ok in other ways. I genuinely wonder if it’s how he was brought up and doesn’t care?

Mummy cleaned up after him and now you are, what's to care about? Obviously not you.

He should be embarrassed for himself, without you having to point it out to him.

BeenThereBackThen · 19/05/2026 10:58

Because they don’t fancy cleaning it up, so feign they can’t see it and know it will be cleaned up by the time they return for more.

In short, lazy pigs.

anotheruser124 · 19/05/2026 11:03

Jane143 · 19/05/2026 09:22

Yes exactly. I’ve just never mentioned it, didn’t want to embarrass him as I don’t think he knows! Or am I being naive?

He will literally be looking at where he urinates and where that stream goes so how on earth do you think he wouldn't realise? This is just gross and lazy. Sure maybe things dont aim correctly from time to time but then you clean it up.

Ive genuinely never had this issue in our home because my Husband isnt gross and is aware that he isnt the only person using the bathroom.

cobrakaieaglefang · 19/05/2026 11:25

Not come across in my personal life, but certainly in the workplace I have. I sent one colleague back into the loos to clean up..and I told him in no uncertain terms what he was in front of customers! The loos can be used by customers but I insisted on the door being locked so they have to ask. The manager backed me. I pointed out that the men would be cleaning it, not me!!! It has cut it right down.

What an ignoramus you are.
Peeing sitting down offers specific benefits for men of all ages. Look it up.

I might, or might not, be an ignoramus, but I am certainly a man and I stand by what I have said.

The so-called "benefits" of peeing sitting down, at any rate from what I have read, seem more a matter of opinion than medical fact. Certainly no urologist that I have ever consulted has ever mentioned them to me.

But there is the benefit of not leaving pee on the seat, which you seem to dismiss. Why mock men who sit down to pee what’s the point in that?

PollyBell · 19/05/2026 12:14

What are the actual medical benefits for men to sit down when peeing?

Darkladyofthesonnets · 19/05/2026 12:20

I live in a male dominated household. Whatever they are doing, I'm not finding puddles on the floor so they either have great aim, sit down or clean up or some combination of these. A man who leaves his wife to clean up his urine on a regular or even irregular basis is incredibly entitled. I try to avoid unisex loos but I can say that scientists are much better than lawyers and accountants at the clean dry floor thing. Just saying.

Bikergran · 19/05/2026 12:24

Because it doesn't come out in a neat tidy stream, but sprays about randomly. If you really want to show him that it goes everywhere, buy a UV torch and wait till it's dark then shine it round the loo. You'll be horrified, but also feel like you're on CSI.....

Not being battered by their wives?

CurlewKate · 19/05/2026 18:52

So there’s a simple way to not pee on the floor. Why wouldn’t you do it?
