Going on holiday next month and want my face out of the sun. Which would you go for? Don’t want anything too try hard or tacky

My super flashy 19YO nephew who lives in the south of France loves a RL or NYY cap lol.

My god, I spelt it wrong by accident

I work with people who misspell stuff. Wasn't having a go at you for your spelling.

Overtheatlantic · 18/05/2026 19:33

Wear a bucket hat. I saw a gorgeous woman in a red one at the rugby in March. Fabulous and fashionable.

TanquerayTickles · 18/05/2026 19:34

Wear whatever you want and whatever brand you want. I have a most fabulous summer hat and I give no fucks about what other people think of it.

We're not the boss of you 😅

hahabahbag · 18/05/2026 19:36

Both are try hard. Wear what you like but you did ask. Get a rollable straw hat, offers more protection. Scarf Giraffe sells them

BiteSizedLife · 18/05/2026 19:42

I have a very weather beaten faded Red Sox cap that I got at a Red Sox game in Fenway years ago. That's the only reason I have it. In fact it was gifted to me there by local friends, I didnt even buy it! I love it fir the memories thiugh I dont support Red Sox in particular....

Otherwise I'd get one with a slogan/saying/quote on it or just a good quality plain one.

The 47 ones are excellent quality I must say.

I loved bucket hats in the 90’s and a few years ago on the beach, but I’m sort of over them 😔

Is branded always tacky??

No. But depends on the brand/location/item. A Louis Vuitton one piece catsuit may be a bit much. A Lacoste polo shirt with white training shoes less so. A Chanel bag or Hermes Birkin (real if possible) can set the tone. Re the hat? Simple colour eg black or navy with a small Polo player logo or just a plain unbranded one eg M&S

landlordhell · 18/05/2026 22:14

I have a cream one thats unbranded for walking about but on a beach I get a straw hat.

For me it's RL as I've always liked that brand. Has to be genuine tho (in another life I only bought things from Madison Ave or Bond St stores as those were the 2 that he actually owned)

nomas · 18/05/2026 14:46

Get a plain cap. You don't need to be branded.

I got a lovely one from Accessorize a couple of years ago.

DD is an ice hockey fan and has a baseball cap of the team she supports.

pinck · 18/05/2026 22:29

Neither—and if you are genuinely thick enough to think a baseball cap counts as sun protection then you deserve the excruciating sunburn you're going to get on your entirely exposed neck, jaw, and ears.

Such a rude comment. I don’t sit and sunbathe in a cap, I rarely sunbathe at all these days, but for early morning walks on the beach, I would like a cap

I have both as I'm clearly tacky haha. Bought them both in NYC if that excuses not buying a plain one.

The Yankees in navy the Ralph in red.
I'd say the Yankees is better quality.

NotAnotherScarf · 18/05/2026 22:42

Neither, unless you are being paid to advertise for them.... otherwise you look just like everyone else. Unbranded, obscure brand, simple plane. People are looking at me not the brand. I am the brand... fashion follows me, I don't follow it

Edited

I think it makes sense when you support the team.

OP may as well wear a Harvard or Yale cap.

Oh god dear, what are you in a rap video? I've said it once, I'll say it a thousand times... unless they are paying you the big bucks, be subtle. Discrete labels only, if ever, quality of course, classic natch. Channel after Coco's collaboration with Hitler because really is just a perfume company, it's like buying a jaguar watch...if Patek Philippe made a sports car would you buy it? No of course not. So why buy clothes designed by companies run by marketing committees...are Hugo boss suits good, no they are off the peg shite, although the SS uniforms fitted well

Be you, be completely you.

Some of the comments on this thread!!!! 😱Seriously, it's a thread about baseball caps. If you are making this obnoxious a reply on something this banal, you really need to turn off your phone/laptop and go for a walk. Sheesh!

Oh, spare me the pathetic defensive backtracking about “early morning walks.” You literally asked how to keep your face out of the sun on 'holiday', not for a prop to wear while trudging down a beach at 6am before the sun’s even up. And, take it from an actual baseball mom: even people actively playing the sport in caps and sunscreen still get fried because a tiny front brim does nothing for angled UV rays.

"The Yankees is better quality” based on what exactly?!? 😭 There are approximately 900 different Yankees caps ranging from official MLB merch to something bought next to the chewing gum at Walmart. It’s not a luxury heritage item, it’s just a hat with a logo half the UK wears without knowing what sport it belongs to.

Caring what others think about what you choose to wear is always tacky

Really? Is that what you tell everyone who asks for opinions on S&B
