To not know what to believe is genuine now on the Internet, especially social media?

It's all got so out of hand, with people using AI and chat gpt, alongside and including scammers.

As an older, world wise human who still wants to be trusting, I do worry about younger generations who are naive and believe what they see online. Going down rabbit holes, finding a platform they feel connected to but it's just the same as the old enticement into a certain belief.

'Do you feel down, no one understands you, we're here to help' types of scenarios which of course many young/vulnerable will explore. Caught, reel in the hooking up, money needed to go further.

Like many other topics, click bait organised by scammers. So sad, examples of sending money feeling a romantic connection from charmers, false charities in aid of something close to your heart.

I'm a total softy ans donate to charities but have to do a lot of research to ensure they're genuine.

Yes, it is unnerving. Social media has worked out I have a son with ADHD in Y10 and I am bombarded now with ads for resources to help him learn/revise/write essays - all the things I'm worried about. But if something looks interesting I check it has a track record and reviews - I suspect quite a lot of 'resources' are people getting AI to write stuff and then charging anxious parents £40 for whatever for a pdf.

I can totally imagine a desperate parent thinking 'This describes my kids' issues so accurately, and I can't work out how to help him/her, so it must be appropriate' and blowing money on information they could have got for free using AI and may be inaccurate anyway.

Absolutely, as you say, bombarded overload! Xx
