A better way to do a lazy weekend?

I am trying to have a lazy weekend - but feel really guilty and like I am wasting my weekend.

i am tired - really tired. My job is full on and I usually spend about four or five hours at the weekend catching up on emails. I don’t have a cleaner at the moment so I also clean the house, get clothes ready for work, visit family, garden, and see friends.

this weekend I am too tired to do anything. I have gone to bed at 9pm on Friday and Saturday night but still feel grim. My head aches. I would love to just lie infront of the tv with the cat all day - but the sun is shining and it feels like such a waste.

any tips for taking a lazy weekend without feeling lazy and guilty?

See it as a reward and don't be a martyr.

Resting is not a waste of time for me. It's essential for mental and physical health

I'm going to spend the day dancing and having a few vinos. Dancing will keep me fit and the booze will take me away from the practicalities and realities of life. Don't overthink it just enjoy it. Have a good day.

Go for a walk and grab a coffee, come home and chill. Or bake something! Low effort productivity :)

Why would it be a waste? What's the point in life if you can't relax for a day when you feel unwell or tired?

What good would it do to 'be productive' today and feel worse tomorrow?

I absolutely hate the mindset of having to be doing something all the time

I am currently laid in bed while writing this, you shouldn't feel guilty at all! It's essential for physical and mental wellbeing to have adequate rest.

Make your bed with lovely clean sheets, have a long leisurely shower, go back to bed with pile of books, coffee or tea plus thermos for more, have a bed day. It's very restorative.

Don’t feel bad for resting! I do know what you mean about feeling like your wasting the day when sun is shining though

If you feel up for it, maybe go for a light walk. listen to your favourite music/podcast and treat yourself to a pastry. That helps me destress and gets me out of the house when I’m feeling exhausted

It's totally ok to take a weekend off sometimes. It sounds like you are actually sick (headache, fatigue) so think of it as self-maintenance.

Can you lie/recline/sit outdoors just enjoying your garden without doing anything? Then you could rest and enjoy the beautiful weather. (If that's to easy, you could make a list of things you'd like to do when you have more energy)

There is nothing wrong with a lazy weekend, you sound like you need it. Even if you do gardening and cleaning, it will all still need doing again in a few days anyway. It’s freezing as well, it’s not like it’s nice spring weather at the moment.
, why is it a waste of weather, summer is coming there will be loads of nice days coming up, today is not one of them.
As long as you have some clean clothes for next week and your bathroom and kitchen are clean, who cares. Tell anyone who might want to see you that you have a stomach bug and have some time to yourself.
There are loads of good series I want to watch at the moment, amandaland, off campus, rivals 2. A day on the sofa with the tv would be some time well spent if you ask me.

Also if you are feeling so run down it might be an idea to get a blood test in case you are anemic or something, I often feel how you describe when my anemia gets bad

Bellyblueboy · 17/05/2026 10:18

Thank you all. I think I will make another cup of coffee and crack open a new book. I might strip my bed!

and yes I do think I might be sick. My arms hurt, my head hurts and I have a bit of a cough. Not properly sick - not time of work sick, but not 100%. I went for a promotion in work this week and didn’t get it so I am feeling a bit down too.

to feel productive I might plan a summer holiday!

I have stopped my bed and it’s spinning away in the washing machine! I am back on the sofa.

what is wrong with me! I feel I need to earn a rest😳.
