Ways to give feedback at work

I’m assuming there’s not necessarily a right or wrong answer, but yesterday I was talking to a friend who told me one of her reports gives her a “hard time”.

part of the problem is that she has a group chat with all of her reports and she puts her mistakes there so nobody else makes them and they all learn from her mistakes. According to my friend, the other reports wouldn’t know who made the mistakes, but the person who made them obviously would. I told her, that I completely understand her report and how it could be demoralising from her POV.

I told her, she could do exactly the same without it being in a group setting.

So AIBU for thinking that yes, her report does have a reason to be annoyed about this?

It sounds like this is an incident or error report? It could perhaps be better framed as ‘let’s all troubleshoot on how we can improve our process or reduce error’ and on a periodic basis identify the trend and how to fix (eg work with IT to make a field mandatory). Think it could probably land better if all could add to or comment on the report with suggestions - it’s about PROCESS improvement vs PEOPLE performance (which should always be a 1:1 thing)

It won't be as "anonymous" as the "manager" thinks. Unless the department is huge. We don't all do identical jobs.

I bet the manager's regular fuckups don't get shared around..

Yes exactly, I even suggested she could just drop the feedback on some sort of “training document” or something.

as @topcat2014 said I doubt it’s anonymous as she thinks
