I once asked a member of the Senior Team if she had dyed her hair.
Apparently this was very rude.

A customer refused to leave a phone number. Apparently this was my fault and disciplinary worthy.

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 16/05/2026 09:28

It was very rude. And quite an odd thing to ask someone.

JustaDream · 16/05/2026 09:29

I got told off for treating my job like a career instead of a job. Every time I think about that place, I get PTSD.

Lunarlightning · 16/05/2026 09:29

Parking in the (consultants only) car park. Ooops 😃
I actually got a stern written warning!

Oh dear, I asked a senior leader this the other day as it looked fab and wanted to compliment her. She took it very bravely 😁

I got told off for leaving scissors in a shop window display. Still bitter 30 years later

Irony is I run my own shop now..

Using printer ink to draw a moustache on myself.

Fair enough. I thought I was being friendly..

I got in trouble when a senior manager emailed the ENTIRE company with some terrible American poem written from the POV of someone dying on the roadside after being hit by a drunk driver. The only lines I remember are: I’m lying on the road Mum, the light is growing dim 🙄

I replied to her by accident saying it was schmaltzy nonsense 🤣 and she complained to the CEO, I was made to apologise to her in person. Apparently using company tools to spam people with absolute bollocks is ok though.

As in medical consultants?

When I was an associate solicitor, the partner I worked for asked me if I would assist one of the other partners. I was handed 2 litigation files to review whether or not they were a winner or not. Next morning I reviewed & drafted a two page memo and sent it to her that set out all the reasons why we should just close the file. I then reviewed the second file and set out in a two page memo the reasons why we should also close that file.

job done, I thought I’d been super efficient and helpful.

I received a phone call the next day saying that my actions were aggressive, and if I was suggesting we close a file, it should’ve been a phone call discussion and not a memo.

that partner was bats**t crazy.

My colleague sent an email to the wrong people....

ElsieMc · 16/05/2026 09:33

I got told off by the manager of a law firm for telling some colleagues I was going to center parcs for a week. Apparently this disrupted staff because none of them wanted to cover for me because of my horrible, selfish demanding boss. She didn't deal with that though because he was a partner.

Tomrrowandtomorrowandtommorrow · 16/05/2026 09:35

Also I sent a book to print with the folios (page numbers) in a slightly different half tone to the one the v famous photographer's wife had wanted. That warranted a book being thrown at me by the MD.

You can surely see that you needed to be told this wasn’t ok?

Calling out a senior manager on his bullshit and lies.

Apparently I need to give him the respect he deserves as a manger. And what I said was lies.

Had to provide evidence to HR what I said was fact and legitimate.

Then I got told off for upsetting my direct manager as I refused to retract my comments

Pixilicious1 · 16/05/2026 09:38

@chailatte123 I asked a director if she’d had her lips done. She had, it looked good, she wasn’t offended and I didn’t get told off. Imagine two adult women talking about beauty and aesthetics! Alert the police!

Ineedanewsofa · 16/05/2026 09:38

My blouse was “too vibrant” and didn’t comply with the dress code apparently. Similarly my plain black shoes with a small gold buckle were “too blingy”.
I was also told to reprimand a member of my team because he had shaved his head(!) and according to the senior director now looked “thuggish and unprofessional”. I did not have that conversation!

I don’t think it’s a rude question at all. I guess it depends on your relationship and how you said it though.
