To not want the BBQ my mum has planned for my birthday?

It’s my birthday this weekend, and we usually always mark it as a family with a BBQ. It’s a nice weekend together, as usually the weather is a lot better than it is at the moment.

The weather is set to be awful. Rainy and cold, but she insists someone can BBQ outdoors and bring it inside. To add, my dad has had surgery this week so can’t BBQ, but he will sit nearby being grumpy about what’s going on and trying to get involved. Honestly I think it’ll all end in tears.

So I’ve suggested I pick up a load of nice picky bits (M&S I’m looking at you), and have a nice afternoon at home. She has said that if that’s what I want, she may as well cancel the entire thing and I’m being “ungrateful” by suggesting this. AIBU to suggest this?

We're hosting a bbq for my birthday this weekend too. I want to cancel and am dreading it quite frankly but dh says we can't cancel, it's too short notice. The house is only small and it's going to be packed with people and those who do venture into the garden will be trailing muck through the house.
It's ridiculous. You have my sympathy.

I voted you are BU purely because you said p bits and that phrase is just so revolting.

To me it’s like saying your are digging your privates. grim.

But yanbu, move it to another weekend or just go out with your own friends.
