To think Andy Burnham will not make Labour any more electable.

I think there is little appetite for a new PM and a new Labour leader will make 0 difference to their chances of winning. I also think the best the public can hope for, from any government, is a slow, well managed decline. I don't think there is much of a future in the UK and the public need to accept the social contract is no more. .

He’s run marathons in the past. He’s definitely a runner. I’m not a fan, think he’s shit stirring and should sit down and shut up, but the run thing rings true to me.

I agree with both things you’ve said.

The membership are keen. And probably right on the chances of winning the next GE for Starmer v Burnham.

Oh right, that's ok then. 😂I absolutely believe that and so does everyone else.

Apart maybe from all those cynical people in Makerfield and shame on them for not believing this perfectly plausible reason, as to why a man who took off jogging-in front of the press that he has assembled-should then return in a car when he-foolishly and mistakenly-thought they had all gone!

What a dickhead!

Well considering that is the station he would need to use to travel into Manchester from I think its very plausible.

The best lies are plausible.

Yes, @cardibach I know he is a runner of sorts but that doesn't mean that his latest run/drive wasn't set up! The two things can be true.

It was funny to see his face when he realised that a journalist and photographer were still hanging about when he drove back! 😂

Was he meant to leave his car at the station indefinitely?

If you want to believe it was all totally natural, crack on and fill your boots!

Others speak the truth.

It sounds like you’re saying he planned his run as a flattering photo op for the media. Where’s your evidence though? It’s entirely plausible that the media were camping outside his house before he went for the run and they took photos of him doing his usual morning routine of going for a run. I’m not sure why you’re so suspicious.

Well, considering I've seen him going for a run around Golborne and the rest of the local area regularly, then yes, I do believe it. It's your choice not to, but as you say, crack on and fill your boots.

For reference, I'm not a Labour voter so am not blindly defending him.

How do you know what the truth is @SweetSummerHerbs ? I drive past his house all the time, twice yesterday and I see him running all the time. It makes perfect sense for him to run to the station and then get the train in. Not everyone is as devious as you think they are .

SSH knows his every move, it seems. Troubling.

Trouble is the rw media (and MN) will squawk if Starmer stays. They will also squawk about every little thing who ever replaces him does and keep squawking endlessly until they get their wish and Farage takes power.

Labour membership prefer Burnham as much as some think it’s about ‘rw media’ and blaming others.

This really is a Labour mess to resolve.

And then when that happens the left wingers will start squawking (actually squawking a lot already)

mrlistersgelfbride · Yesterday 13:16

I live in the Makerfield constituency. It’s a reform heavy area. People have turned against Labour. I don’t think he’ll even win the seat. It’s saddens me, as i think he’s a fantastic Mayor, but there you go.

Labour have brought this on themselves anyway.

Yes no one else to blame.

You don’t need to be sad, if he loses the by-election he’ll still be mayor.

I am not blaming anyone for anything and absolutely agree this is Labour's mess to resolve. But this is not the way IMHO.

What I am doing is pointing out the reality. The squawking about Burnham has already started (he's faking going for a run!) and he has not even been selected as candidate yet.

Meanwhile the dodginess of non-Labour politicians is largely ignored. If you can't see how differently the rw media treats the different parties, then maybe it is because you are happy for it to be that way.

I will definitely be squawking if Farage becomes PM. With good bloody reason.

Yep. People didn’t mind when the media worked in their favour.

This site was quite happy about a politician not swiping a debit card or whatever and see them skewered by the media.

The same are now concerned it’s happening to Labour. ‘The media’ is another excuse. Even Labour members can see Starmer is less likely to win the next GE than Burnham. They’ll have to figure out what to do about that. The first NEC block could be on a par with the Miliband decision way back when.

If Burnham loses next month they could be in a worse place still next local elections.

Actually, I'd prefer balanced reporting across the board and less polarisation.

I don't remember the swiping thing tbh.

I think Burnham might well lose the by-election if he runs.

BIossomtoes · Yesterday 13:37

Perhaps you could enlighten as to when the media worked in favour of left wing sympathisers because I must have been asleep during that nanosecond.

But you are squawking now when he hasn’t?

Don’t be always worrying about something that may never happen.
