I'm on a plane & flight is delayed half hour, hence I'm on my phone.
The gross man next to me, squashing me slightly with his arm keep sniffing & clearing his throat of phlegm. Would you cause a scene & embarrass your dh by offering him a tissue?

Oh poor you, that makes my stomach flip,I told a guy at a bus stop to pack it in as it was making me retch.
Not a good start at 6.30am🤮

Maybe he's ill and he really needs a tissue. Make his life better by offering him the tissue. It can be a genuine offer of assistance and not a passive aggressive thing. Maybe he's feeling really self-conscious and embarrassed about the noises he's making.*

*Ok, it's also possible that he's just gross and likes making people uncomfortable. Or he's totally self-absorbed and unaware.

Great. What a wanker. I caught a cold off someone next to me on a flight earlier this year, three crap days on a driving tour FFS.

And yet Mumsnetters are the same ones saying "you'll never catch me wearing those face nappies ever again" in response to new virus stories in the news.

We won't wear masks, but we want everyone around us to not travel if they have a cold.

Help me make it make sense.

I rarely get off a plane without catching something! I’ve started using those nasal spray things that are supposed to help prevent catching anything.

offer him the tissue op and have A good flight.

I think people are missing that it's your husband 🤣

I wish I'd had one. I was happy wearing masks and do if I go out when I have a cold. Always admired the Japanese for that.

I don't think it's her husband who is being gross, but that he would be embarrassed by OP offering a tissue to a stranger, similar to kids being embarrassed by their parents.

Go for it OP. Shame the slimy snuffler.

No, it wasn't my dh being gross, it was the man next to me. Dh didn't want the embarrassment of me challenging the dickhead next to me. If it was my dh I wouldn't hesitate in calling him out on it.
I ended up keeping schtum, but just sighing heavily at every snort.
Then he got up for the loo & I was subjected to a long bum crack due to his ill fitting shorts sitting under his belly. Thank god it was only a short flight to Spain 😅

It's because people on Mumsnet are all different and the ones saying thing A aren't the same ones saying thing B.

PennySweeet · 14/05/2026 21:25

Weird how politely offering someone next to you a tissue might be considered causing a scene!?

Unless your DH is expecting you to slap the passenger across the head with a Kleenex, whilst screaming “OI CUNT FACE, BLOW YOUR NOSE”?

Lookonline · 14/05/2026 21:33

Maybe you are wearing a perfume or have washed your clothes in a detergent that he is allergic to?
