Supermarket meat

Friends inviting us around for BBQ.

I don't eat supermarket meat, do I just bring our own stuff?

Hopefully if cheesecake is on offer, it won't be from Icelands😆

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · Today 13:02

This is a mad take. Not all supermarket meat is the same. Eat the meat or go veggie (assuming you'll bring yourself to eat supermarket veg).

See that wouldn't bother me, I could happily eat that!

Can you really tell the difference?

inmyhair · Today 13:04

If you accept an invitation to eat at a friends house then surely you should eat what you are offered? Anything else is just rude really.

Oh probably more than any other food out there!

I have read you all wrong then OP.😄

I buy lovely meat from farmers markets from the farmers who reared it and know where it was slaughtered. When I am invited somewhere I eat what is served to me, compliment the food and say thank you because I am polite and know how to behave as a guest. Op, you would probably be happier staying at home with your nice meat.

I mean I would eat it knowing it wouldn't be the best cheesecake I have ever had - but I would it.

There is just something about supermarket meat.

Where do you buy your meat from? Butchers or straight from the farm?

Farm shop.

I could buy things that are unlikely to be there.

Yes but you’d be bringing it, asking them to cook it, and saying it’s just for you and not going into the general available food to share. “Please cook this, but it’s just for me, and I won’t eat any of the other stuff you’ve cooked”. As opposed to, for example, someone bringing burgers, someone bringing chicken, the host providing sausages, everyone eating a mix of them all.

Lurkingandlearning · Today 13:12

I think you should at least tell them in advance that you intend to bring your own special meat. It will give them a chance to tell you not to come.

swqa · Today 13:12

Why aren't you asking the hosts OP?

Random321 · Today 13:14

Allergies aside, I think it's rude to accept an invite to a BBQ where food is provided and then tell the hosts you want something else.

If their food isn't good enough for you, decline the invite instead.

TubeScreamer · Today 13:16

Decline or tell them you have become veggie. Obviously you will have to follow through on the veggie thing if you reciprocate the invitation at a later date.

it would be incredibly rude to take your own meat.

coulditbeme2323 · Today 12:55

I am not that weird haha! I just don't like to eat it!

Why?

coulditbeme2323 · Today 13:20

TheyGrewUp · Today 13:19

Why?

Smell, texture, all the water that comes out of it.

It's just my thing.

OP posts:
Havesomefaith · Today 13:20

I see no difference between taking your own meat and going and only eating veggie stuff when they know you’re not vegetarian. Just take something a little unusual that you know they won’t have - and say you thought they looked nice

toomuchfaff · Today 13:21

Why dont you just tell them you don't want their supermarket meat instead favouring your own farm shop meat.

Is it because you know its unreasonable?

Are you willing to take enough meat to cater for all attendees? Offer to bring some wares

ButterYellowFlowers · Today 13:22

Yes just take enough to share about a bit and you’ll seem generous. Don’t just take a couple of pieces for yourself as that will be seen as rude.

Of course I am aware it's a bit rude, hence why I am asking here.

And yes I would be happy to take lots of meat.

Have you known this friend long?

I pretty much know of my close friends likes and dislikes and wouldn't be bothered at all if they wanted to bring their own meat/food, I'd be more upset knowing you didn't/wasnt enjoying the event. Just make sure you're loitering by the BBQ while it's cooking or trust your friend to keep it separate
