Link to spreadsheet of Labour MPS calling for resignation - https://x.com/GuidoFawkes/status/2053925699824574889

Streeting has to make his move now, Starmer will never be this weak and he has the chance to go now.

Burnham might be more likely to win, but he is not in, and where exactly is a safe seat by election they could parachute him in for? (nowhere)

So - Streeting will never have a better chance of being PM, he pulls the trigger NOW or he never pulls it at all.

I did say on Thursday that I thought it would be Friday or Monday.... Tuesday is a pretty good guess.

This is a quiet Bat People moment... That Speech... not worth remembering...

@ProudCat you do know Rayner who you seem to think was picked on is being investigated don't you ?

And before this new scandal starmer was trying to defend himself against the mandelson scandal ?

What's embarrassing is that in a party with a majority as large as Labour have, they have very few potential candidates to replace Starmer. It doesn't say much for the quality of their MPs!

Listen to some of the backbenchers. Thick as mince.

CurlewKate · 11/05/2026 22:17

I do find the Burnham fans deeply puzzling.

That they think he's their saviour, or that they think they can even get him into a position to challenge (or both)?

My own MP among them! 🙄

Exactly this.
So just why did he bring back Gordon Broon and Harriet Harman. Does he not know his MPs well enough to see talent.

If Gordon Brown is the answer, he’s asking the wrong question.

Starmer is a dead man walking

80 MPs - its done

And I hate every one of those despicable, self serving, unintelligent MPs. I am so tired of our MPs being motivated by self interest.

It is not Starmer.

It is the Labour Party + global economy + history.

It does not matter who runs the Labour Party, it will not form the majority govt after the next general election. God knows who will, but guaranteed it will be worse than the present government.

And god help any one earning over £25k if Burnham gets in. But mini-me Farage is a million times worse. Look at what his hero has done to the American economy. But more importantly how he’s eviscerated democratic institutions.

MNLurker1345 · 12/05/2026 08:01

I didn’t watch his speech. He makes my skin crawl. Please tell me, did he mention the appointments of the Labour grandees?

When news of the appointments was released on Sunday, I thought it would be a theme of his reset speech. Did he sleep on it overnight and realise it wouldn’t fly and therefore go for the 2029, second term, rejoin the single market/customs Union angle -
”They will adore me if I say that”.

Absolutely thick as mince chancers but same for the other parties. Johnson booted out any intelligent Tory to stop himself from being outed as a self serving chancer. Didn’t work. Reform MPs, when they have them, will be thick as mince and mean.

ah you're funny.

I have made this point a hundred times here the last few days.

No it does not trigger one. But any new leader wants a mandate and authority . they only get that with an election

Not necessarily. I can’t see any new leader risking another election after the set of results from Thursday. They’ll chug on without a new vote, just like Truss and Sunak.

measuretwicecutonce · 12/05/2026 08:15

Agree with @Bigfatsquirrel, I believe the cost of borrowing increased again yesterday due to this shit show. The LP just don’t seem to understand it acknowledge that their first budget and subsequent U turns on benefits have put us in a perilous position. Going further left will be a complete disaster, Starmer should have stood up to his back benchers.

IsawwhatIsaw · 12/05/2026 08:24

I’m not persuaded any replacement will be better. So many of these issues are global.

Anyone listen to this? $13 million betting on Starmer going. What an incentive to game the market. Could be done by individuals using AI bots to flood social media with negative stories. Could be done by organised crime. Could easily be done by foreign governments. Or a competing political party that’s social media savvy. Only this ‘market’ is our political life blood.

This feels like bloody Brexit all over again. It’s infuriating.

Except many people really don’t like him. You just need to listen to some feedback from MPs or directly.

I can’t see how it was a bad thing. It’s going to make a really positive difference to the lives of many children. Shouldn’t we celebrate that?

Have you seen the state of the economy? In 2 years the welfare bill has increased by about £57 billion and is set to continue to rise, we cannot afford it.

Labour do appear to be shooting themselves in the foot here but they aren’t going to vote for a general election given the polls.

Who doesn’t like him? The public? His own MPs? Split between the egotistical wannabe PMs and the thick as mince MPs?

I don’t know anyone in Westminster so accept that there’s a whole lot going on that I don’t know about.

From the perspective of a removed but interested citizen and voter, I don’t need a pm that I like. One with two brain cells would be good. Someone not an embarrassment on the global stage, great. Not corrupt. Not backed by Russian money. Not so left leaning they’ve lost their mind. One that seems to care about the country at least as much as they care about themselves.

Which of the Labour politicians do you envision doing a better job?

Just look at recent votes and feedback from the doorstep. Even Labour MPs relayed on Times the loathing was there.

The speech didn’t do it, it was bad.

Re the question at the end, reading quickly, let’s see who they go for.

‘He’s digging in’, apparently. According to Downing Street leaks to journos. The man is shameless.

Has the number of rebels increased yet?
It will be a funny mood tomorrow when Starmer has to speak and answer questions about the King's Speech.

If accurate.

He’s a scorched earth kind of bloke.

Sartre · 12/05/2026 09:15

Some of those names are unsurprising, they were corbynites - John McDonnell and Imran Hussain for example. I read Yvette Cooper was calling for it in The Guardian and that’s when I thought yeah the man is toast. Mandelson screwed him over, him saying “nobody told me” was pretty pathetic, Ed Miliband knew all about him 10 years ago.

The party needs Burnham.

It’s the EU reset. He wants to go down in history as repairing the UKs relationship with the EU.
